www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnLTG8x_g_wAnd so it was with our Family gathering at Hocking Hills State Park over the weekend in Ohio! My wife put all this together a year ago and we rented 3 cabins for 4 nights. Man, what a great time! My whole family spent a great bunch of time together for a few days: Here we are at one of the many hikes (Conkles Hollow): HAIL! Uh, yeah...We got hammered good with 2-3 inch hail on Sunday. All 5 of our vehicles suffered some serious damage. Fortunately, none of us cracked glass like a few of our neighbors: Even a full hour later, this is what hail still looked like: But we still had a blast. Hobo dinners with deer burger and steak and the fixins! It took multiple fire rings for the group! And man was it gooooood! On one of the cave hikes, ever the Electrical Engineer, my son thought it would be a good idea to teach his nephews a little about his radio control buggies! He had a dozen kids chasing around the place! Pretty funny entertainment! One of my grandsons woke up on the cranky and vocal side...until Grandpa went and got him a cookie! Oh yeah! He's my buddy! And of course, when the S'mores were gone, my 3 oldest grandsons loved hangin' with me and their Pop's til the wee hours!

This is gonna get interesting in the next 24 hours. Here is the hail damage incurred from our recent trip to Ohio. We will get the estimate shortly and then we have to decide whether to repair.

This is how they explained the marks and numbers: First, they scan my VIN and that goes into their Hail damage App. Each specific car has a panel ID (part number) and this is important since the compound or metal will vary and that determines the cost of repair for that particular panel. The estimate costs work by a "range" per panel. If a panel shows 3 dents then they note it as 1-5. As the hood shows more damage, it is the 50-75 range. The green "half moon" marks are for hail. The pink marks are preexisting damage. I used a "clicker" and came up with a total of 204 dents. I'll know more information later today.

That is where they started counting the hail strikes on all the doors. Up and left of the 1-5 on passenger side looks to be hits 6-15.

If the dents aren't deep there is technology that will take them out.... it's not a fast process

This is getting crazy now. The estimate has come in and our insurance company is telling us the car is totaled. Going to take the advice of my good friend, whitetail1 and arm myself with a bunch of data showing that their fair market value placed on my car is way too low! It would absolutely be crazy to take such a well running vehicle and total it, simply based on a bunch of hail pocks! Stuff like this wakens the ferocious tiger temper in me the likes of which this company may have never seen. Totally PO’d over this and I’m not gonna let it die!

See if they have a price you can buy it and Keep it after they settle the totaled value price....you may be surprised what you can keep it for! BTDT

They will offer a buy back option for you HighCotton . I would try to get them to increase the amount they are offering first, then once you agree on the fair market value ask about a buy back. You've got my number if you want to chat.

My wife's Durango got backed into a couple months ago. Dented hood, cracked grille, scuffed bumper, broke one plastic radiator support. Insurance said it was totaled, which amazed me. They gave us $13k for it, we bought it back for $1900, paid a body shop $3500 to fix it, pocketed the rest. It's as good as it was before, just has the rebuilt title now.
I would definitely try to get a fair price for it, then as others said buy it back and either drive it as-is or sell for a profit.

Pay the salvage fee and keep the car. I've done it twice on deer collisions. Each time I profited a decent amount of money and kept driving the vehicle without fixing the minor damage. Its crazy how easily body damage will total a car.
