Got a Kentucky bird this morning, and it seems to have a tumor or something in the breast meat. Has anyone ever seen anything like this?

I’m afraid those would be going in the trash.
Might be an old spur wound?

Never saw that before, but I think I’d have to agree with woody.

My opinion is if the bird acted normal and he appeared healthy then discard that one breast half and keep everything else. I agree with woody that is probably an old spur wound or an old wound from something.

I had someone else tell me they had a bird like this and they just cut out the abscess thoroughly and it was all good.

I wouldn't be afraid to keep that bird and eat it just remove the the bad spot.
I have cleaned countless numbers of ducks and geese that had every thing from insect larva to old shot in their meat and I processed it and ate it, I am still hear.
OR........this could be the year you give that person who has bugged you for years to give him some wild turkey meat a slice of heaven.

The one year we did very well on geese in Feb all the breast meat was processed for jerky. I was amazed at what was in there. Steel shot of all sizes. Lead shot of all sizes. .177 and .22 cal pellets from a pellet gun. .22 lr bullets, both all lead and copper plated. I was expecting to find an arrowhead too. I wonder if the tumor in the turkey was formed around shotgun shot?

I'll never eat Turkey again. LOL Now that is some scary stuff. When I was in Pre-Veterinary medicine at Purdue I head some of the Vet School Students talking about the Paracitology class that they were taking. Scary stuff indeed. The more you know the less you want to eat meat.
