Besides law enforcement or DNR, minus military and security guards, has anyone here been paid for their use of firearms?
I have.
It's been a few years ago, but I got a call from a customer who had a very odd request.
This guy was the general manager for a trucking warehouse in my home town.
He called one night about snow built up on the roof of the warehouse. It had drifted on one side of the warehouses flat roof and caused a partial collapse of the roof.
There was about 4 FEET of snow on this section of roof when I arrived. The roof was sagging in badly and he was concerned that when the snow began melting, all of the water, and weight, would consolidate into the low spot. He was worried that this may bring down the rest of the roof structure.
Knowing I was a firearm fanatic, he asked me to use my revolver, a .357magnum, to shoot drain holes in the ceiling so the water would drain off.
This warehouse is in the middle of the city, with a 400 family apartment complex on the other side of the common fence.
I told the boss I could not safely do as he asked with the revolver, but a shotgun would be great.
They backed out of the warehouse while I ran home.
I brought back my Mossberg 500 12ga and some 00Buck.
Half of the warehouse staff followed me through the warehouse as I unloaded close to a box (25 rounds) of 00Buck into the ceiling.
It immediately began to drain, as I'd expected, and I packed up and went home.
The boss was left shaking his head saying, "I wonder how I'm going to explain this receipt for 12ga ammunition..."
Well, not what some might think, but I WAS a "hired gun", at least for a few minutes, and no-one was shooting back!

A dog trainer (Training Springer Spaniels for Field Trials) would pay for a buddy and I to drive from Oceanside, CA to Phoenix, AZ, put us up for the weekend, feed us and all we had to do was shoot pheasants and pigeons for him when he was running the dogs. Seems his clients wouldn't listen to him when he would tell them he needed long retrieves for the dogs. The clients would shoot the birds as soon as they flushed. Not good when you are running dogs in a Field Trial, the dogs get used to a short retrieve. Also not good when the dog doesn't sit when the bird flushes. The retrieve is the reward for the dog, and you don't reward the dog if it doesn't drive the bird up in the air, then sit and not chase the bird.
Dropping the birds far away from the dog also got them to watch closely where the bird fell, the handler wasn't supposed to direct the dog to the bird, only as a last resort to find the bird.
We did this for about 2 years for him.

I would love to get paid to hunt. It wasn't hunting, it was shooting, plain and simple. Keep one eye on the dog, one eye on the bird, and listen for the handler to tell us to shoot or not. THEN wait until the bird is WAY out there. He wanted 100 yd retrieves for the dogs. It wasn't easy.

Mine were static, and right in front (and above) me.

Got a call from a friend once that his aunt had passed away and the family knew she had a lot of cash in her house. She lived in a bad part of Indy and he was afraid to go get it. He asked me to go along just in case. Thankfully never had to use the firearm but was slipped some cash for my service. It was amazing how much cash she had stashed all over that house. Older lady that didn’t trust banks.

My retriever club hires people to shoot mallard fliers at our event. I usually take a turn for free. My son shoots for us all the time, doesn’t charge us because he likes it so much. He killed 123 straight in one day without loosing a bird. We still have to use steel even though they are farm birds.

Try to find a akc retriever club in your area, almost guarantee that they will use you. We feed all our help, supply a chair and umbrella, along with a cooler of ice and waters. I've had our youth trap shooting team come and help us, last check we sent them was $1500 for a 3 day event. It takes at minimum 12 workers to throw birds at all the stations.
