Yep - I do the same cell phone to Binos trick as well. They make a little piece to do it, but I'm too cheap. First time I saw one in the wild I was near my place and almost ran into a utility pole because I wasn;t watching what I was doing but instead watching the bird!

I've got a video of a pair of them, I guess it would be courting a couple of years back. They would fly at one another and then they locked talons and started spiraling towards the ground only to let go just before the tree tops. Really cool to see.
