Government shutdowns should never happen. It’s ludicrous. Just playing games and that is people’s livelihoods they are messing with, especially this time of year. Luckily my work is already funded for this fiscal year and isn’t part of this mess, but the people we pay and I have friends and family that are currently either furloughed or working without pay and it’s just not right.

In my opinion the government can stay closed to the 4th of July. 3 months to 1/2 year is all that is needed.

As long as my place of employment is funded that would be fine. That will never happen though as they tend to just kick the can down the road a month or two at a time.

Government shutdowns are the example of the dysfunction of the people we elect. Self serving, self interested. All of them are the same with very few exceptions. Shame on them. What is the fix? At 66 years old I don't see a fix. This is pathetic partisan politics at its worse. Here comes Pelosi..... and all the crap she brings with her. A clear view into the minds of the Democrats. An 85 year old career politician from CA. Yeah she represents midstream Americans. No, not even close. This is so sad. Just build the wall. $5 billion in the US budget is chump change.

You want something to change? Support candidates from the party of your choice in the primaries and if they don't win, don't vote for the incumbents in the Fall. Doing so might get their attention when they lose that seat they have held for years.
As far as the border goes, a wall isn't going to keep them out, but what will is companies not hiring people without the proper paperwork, property owners to not rent or sell to people without the proper paperwork, car dealers or individuals not willing to sell to people without the proper paperwork, etc...
Will any of that happen? Nope, because we aren't about to vote for anyone from another party (or sit the vote out in the fall). As far as illegals go...Many of us complain about them, but we don't seem to mind them replacing our roofs or cutting our grass. Not to mention how Democrats love the voting block they get from illegals, legal children and Republicans love cheap labor.
Meanwhile...we all continue to b*tch and moan about "the other side"...which is what both parties love as it takes the attention off the real issues. That in turn keeps these worthless pieces of crap employed and spending money like there is no tomorrow.

The large numbers of illegals voting for Democrats is a myth. That is why no one has been able to offer any proof of it happening on any scale. The illegals actually try to stay as far under the radar and off anybody's paper trail as they can, for fear of being caught. They mostly work real hard at avoiding attention.
The real big problem is some business owners and some homeowners wanting cheap labor. If the President really wants to slow down illegal immigration, he needs to crack down HARD on the dirty employers that drive it. They bring them over, treat them terrible, pay them dirt, dodge taxes and safety laws, and take work away from legal workers (us).
Also, give the border patrol a LOT more money and people.
A coast to coast wall sounds good but won't work. They will go over, under, around and through it as long as they think they can make $6 an hour instead of $3 an hour. All you need for a 20 foot wall is a 21 foot ladder! That said, I think more strategically placed barrier walls in certain places would help.
I have never been in favor of some kind of highly secure national ID, but maybe it's time

Sorry for the double post, again. This $#@&% phone does it all the time, but not my laptop or tablet. Drives me nuts. Does the same thing with texts. I find it nearly impossilbe to do text and forums using my smart phone. The screen size it way too small for my tired eyes. So I use the computer for forum discussions. I find the screen text larger and easier to read. So I wait until I'm at my computer before I get online and come in here this forum. But, that's just me. Obviously many others use their smart phones to communicate in this forums. They must have better eye sight than I. LOL Oh, Show me a 20 ft tall concrete wall and I'll show you a 40 ft tall ladder. What we need is more technology sensors and more boarder partrol agents at the boarder. I'm all for boarder security but the wall won't really work. The drug smugglers will go over it with ladders or under it with tunnels unless we have people there to catch them. We should spend our money wisely IMHO.

We should spend our money wisely IMHO. Why start now? I mean really... with a deficit in the trillions why does it matter what we do with 60 Billion dollars? Maybe we should bail out gm again.

I don't see caravans of people trying to get into the USA from the northern border. Heck, the winter up there is enough of a barrier as it is - how many people are walking across the border in -20°F temps anyway? Why did the caravan drive to the California border when the Texas border was a LOT closer? Why not cross into Texas at Brownsville or Laredo? caravan map If the goal was to get to the USA, why spend the $$ on fuel, day to day living expenses, and take the extra time to go to the border in Ca.? If I have to show ID when I go vote, ID to board a plane, ID to make a withdrawal at the bank, then I see no reason why everyone shouldn't be required to have an ID. What gets me is sending $$ to other countries for foreign aid when we could put that money to use here within our borders. Fix the highway infrastructure and bridges. Put the $$ back into Social Security that was stolen from it. etc., etc., etc. The budget in 2018 for foreign aid was almost equal to what the budget was for homeland security, which also encompasses border patrol and customs. 25.4 Billion dollars for foreign aid, 25.5 billion for U.S. Customs and Border Protection & U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. www.statista.com/statistics/736300/department-of-homeland-security-budget-by-organization/If foreign aid is so beneficial to the USA, then show me the where the billions of dollars are coming back into the USA because of it. Yank all the foreign aid and pump that into those 2 departments and see what happens IF THE EXISTING LAWS WOULD BE ENFORCED. Screw the "Sanctuary States and Cities". When everybody had to go thru Ellis Island, and was held for months at a time because of sickness or other issues, where was the big protest then? Or take the easy way out. Pass a law saying that any person that wants to move to the USA has to pass requirements that are the same as if a USA citizen wanted to immigrate to their country. That would be fair for everyone, who wanted to come here, right? Our southern neighbors policy
