At first I thought it might be strange to throw a poll up for Braun vs Donnelly. And then I found myself in the middle of a breakroom discussion where I was surprised at the guys I thought were right wingers up for Donnelly. I think this will be a pretty close race as it has been touted. I found it most interesting that a few guys insisted that Donnelly was an "A" grade from the NRA. Not so fellas! He was at one time in the past but not anymore. He is a "D" at best. Curious as it is, I have had the opportunity to meet and greet Donnelly on 2 occasions during funerals where I was on duty with the Indiana Patriot Guard Riders. I realize that he is a politician...still he is a very personable and likable guy. He has the ability to swing a lot of votes! Just sayin'...

On the surface I like Donnelly. He seems to be a reasonable person close to the middle, something hard to find in either party these days. If I just went by his words and his campaign promises, I'd probably vote for him this time around, even though I didn't 6 years ago.
My issue with him is that when it comes to something important, he does like all the other politicians and falls right in line with the party vote. He voted against tax reform, and his justification was that it was a scam and actually a tax increase on middle class Americans. Well, guess what, I'm middle class, and my after tax income went up by about $100/month after the tax bill. And I'll have to wait and see how it shakes out, but I expect to still get a bigger refund this year, even though I had a lot less withheld. If he had some other disagreement with it (national debt, wants more govt services, etc.), fine, just say so, don't repeat the party lies that my taxes are going to go up.
Same thing with the Kavanaugh vote. Whether that guy did or didn't grope somebody in high school, that whole process was a dem orchestrated chit show, and everyone (including the dems) knew it. Still, what does he do? Falls in line with his obstructionist party and votes no, yet still tries to pay lip service about supporting Trump's agenda. He tries to say one thing then does another, over and over.
So I'm still undecided whether to vote R or throw my vote away on the libertarian. Regardless, Donnelly won't be getting it.

I agree he does seem more to the middle but with both sides lately, especially the dems, it seems like it doesn't matter if you're a moderate you vote on party lines regardless. Theres no free thinking anymore, they represent their party instead of their state. I would vote for the libertarian candidate but it's such a tight race I think I'm going Braun.

If I knew nothing of Donnelly other than his "no" vote on Kavanaugh I still wouldnt vote for him ....
Few things politicians do touch my life but appointments to the SCOTUS is one that can and does make a real impact ....

woohoo
Unfortunately, that's on both sides of the aisle.
But...the other side of that coin is that if you want some influence in Washington you have to go along with your party's position to gain a seat on certain committees and if you don't, you can explain to your constituents back home why you haven't accomplished anything.

All I needed to see was Donnelly running like a conservative, he’s not. This fool voted for the Iran deal, he’s a joke. He knows he can fool some people by talking like a conservative.

Yep he runs to the middle (or past it) during election time; but he is no friend of gun owners. Besides a vote for him is to put the extreme leftists in leadership positions

I'm suprised to see Donnelly has support on this site. We're on a pro gun site but still some members want to elect someone who would vote to take away the very thing they use to hunt with. Like I said, you can fool some in every group.

Like I said, you can fool some in every group. Well said. As P.T Barnum said "There's a sucker born every minute". One thing that is not taught in school is critical thinking. Consequently, many people let the news talking heads think for them without questioning the source or validity of the information or opinions. Ill informed and misinformed people are the results. Very sad.

Joe comes off as a career politician (like most Democrats), nice guy or not. I think his time is up. If he wanted to appear conservative (like he is trying to do now), he would have voted for Kavanaugh. Anybody that supports Hillary is evil in my book. And yes, he would go after our guns in a heartbeat.

I don`t like Braun per say...I hoped for Todd Rokita to be running against Donnelly. I made the mistake of voting for a dem ONCE, when I voted for Evan Bahy, and I`ll never vote for a demo again. I just look at the party platforms. Dems are for perversion, butchering infants in the womb, hate the Second Amendment, and not in their platform, but, they`re for "sanctuary cities", and open borders. No thanks. Dems are domestic terrorists.

If nothing else, the Republicans need Braun to help with keeping the majority in the Senate. I don't know much about either one except that I am %$#@^&* tired of the ads on TV and YouTube. I've said for years that I'd vote for a candidate, regardless of party, that pledged to not mention his/her opponents name, launch attack ads, etc.
I completely understand the temptation to vote Libertarian. I'd do it myself if there was a candidate that had a legitimate chance of winning. However, keep in mind that a vote for a Libertarian is a vote that a Republican candidate is NOT getting. It's called "watering down the vote" and usually works to the advantage of Democrats.

It's called "watering down the vote" and usually works to the advantage of Democrats. Yes, it`s imperative for the GOP to keep the majority. That is, unless you want the U.S. to have no borders. Indianapolis already looks like a third world country is some places, I don`t want that to accelerate. One of the things that frustrates me the most is the liberal puppet media. I`m old enough, I can remember far enough back when the media seemed to actually report news. You know, they simply reported the facts of what happened, and the reader or listener was left to decide what that event meant to them. If you look at anything online, or watch the news on television, both local stations as well as national news, it`s all skewed against this President specifically, and against traditional, wholesome values in general. It`s not news, it`s all op-ed pieces, hit pieces, 100% of it pushing a liberal agenda that pushes perversion, open borders, butchering infants in the womb, and it`s anti-gun narrative. And those are just the highlights, there`s much more, and the evil runs much, much deeper. Lyin` Lester Holt was nearly screaming the other day that even with the "devices" that had been mailed out, that Trump continued with his criticism of the media, as if he`s so simplistic that he cannot grasp that 1) Criticism of the media had zero to do with a warped mind sending potentially deadly devices at them, and 2) The fact that this media has every ounce of criticism leveled at it coming. The role of the media is simply to present the facts to the people, not to promote and further an agenda, or, to make rock stars of those who are seeking to advance their liberal agenda. The criticism this President has leveled at the media is just, and in fact, has been mild as opposed to what it could be. Freedom of the press protects a press that provides the People with the facts they need to be so informed as to make correct and appropriate decisions regarding their elected employees and the state of the Union. Freedom of the press does not protect a puppet media that is simply a mouthpiece for a cultural and social driven liberal agenda, that wants to drive social change and attack the constitutional rights of law-abiding American citizens.

I indicated my preference above, which is "other", or more specifically Lucy Brenton, the Libertarian candidate.
I do have at least one serious difference of opinion with her, as she apparently believes strongly in adding all she can to the already overpopulated number of humans driving around looking for a parking spot or waiting in line wherever. She is a mother of ten. But aside from that one bit of lunacy, she seems to have her head on straight and is generally in favor of good sense, logic and reason.
Does she have a legitimate chance at winning? Of course not. But will a candidate of any other party ever have such a chance until there are enough voters who will vote for their actual choice based on what they stand for rather than trying to "pick a winner" like they're at the track, instead of showing their true political choice. Those votes for a Libertarian ARE counted also, you know, and if they end up being enough that they may have tipped the race for either of the major party candidates, or would even come close to doing so, the two major parties will be listening a little closer to the Libertarian voices as the next election nears, to try to catch a few of those voters.
We don't have to actually win an election to influence the next one. No vote cast is ever "lost".

If only we had elected employees who understood the Constitution, and even upheld their oath to protect and defend it. They all, every last one of them swear the oath to defend the Constitution, and before their hand is even off the Bible, they are thinking ahead to all the ways they`ll violate it and trample our freedoms and individual liberties.

You're absolutely right that it's not a lost vote and at some point hopefully we get to the point that a 3rd party can be taken seriously. However in this specific race there is no evidence that she is competitive so I have to vote for braun if I want someone who even remotely represents my interests. Otherwise realistically it favors donnely. That being said I hope to see some libertarian candidates take hold in the next few years.
