I was in 8th grade, I remember seeing one of my best friends in the hall between classes saying his teacher had got a call and turned on the TV to see what was going on. His words to me was there are planes flying around crashing into buildings in NYC. I went to my next class and we watched the news. I can't remember if we were sent home early. Alot of panic of what was going to happen next. But I remember that evening with my mom waiting in line at the gas station for $5.00 a gallon for fuel. Back then it was maybe $1.15-$1.25. I know when I started driving it was $1.30s.

I was at work watching on tv. My first thoughts were we are going to war with someone and the world was going to change. I was working in the operating room and could not believe they kept doing cases during the entire thing.

The no fly days to follow was another thing I recall. Goose hunting I realized how much quieter it was without planes...very vividly. Was really strange to see no trails or hear any sound of planes over head. Also gas prices went crazy that day.

I was helping a buddy build a 50 acre lake, he came by and said something about someone bombing New York. At lunch we were glued to the radio trying to find out what had happened.

I was doing some last-minute gear checking and checking stuff off my list to loading into the van for the annual trip to the ND badlands with my longtime friend from work. We were to leave in a few days.
The wife was bustling around in her usual REALLY last minute haste, getting ready to leave in a few minutes for the airport to join my dad and his companion and her sister for a flight to Europe by way of NYC, and a tour boat.
The phone call was from our son and he asked if she had left yet. When I told him she was almost ready, he said to tell her to relax, she wouldn't be leaving today. I asked him why and he said "turn on your TV".
One of the more exciting stories I heard about the next few days was from another IBA member, Terry Receuver (sp?). He and his wife were on a fly-in drop camp moose hunt in Alaska. He had killed a nice bull with his 75# recurve, and they had several bags of fresh moose hanging in the trees near their camp, and were very anxiously awaiting the plane to take them out, having seen grizzly tracks in the area. When it didn't arrive on time, and there was no way to reach the the outside world electronically, they could only wait and hope that the plane came back before the bear did.
Their pilot, meanwhile, was pleading his case before the military officers who had charge of enforcing the no-fly orders, and had met some very stiff resistance to making any exceptions at first. He finally had success and was allowed to rescue them, but not until after they'd spent an extremely uneasy night.

I was in middle school. They wouldn't tell us what happened though. Teachers were bawling and carrying on, but had been instructed not to tell any students what was happening. There were all kinds of crazy rumors going around, had no idea what really happened until I got home that night. This seems so odd to me. I was in the 6th grade when the Challenger exploded and we all went and watched it. It was open discussion for a couple days with all of us.

I was waiting for a college class to start. Someone came in and said a plane had hit the world trade center. We all then went to a classroom that had a huge projection screen and put on the news. We were watching when the second tower was hit.
I went to college in Pennsylvania and we weren't too far away from where the other plane went down.
