We shall see... DKS stock has gone up and down for a while now and look to still be up for the year! I am going with what some others where saying when this all started it's will have minimal affect in the long run! Time will tell, not short term actions.IMO BTW.... DKS didn't get to their level of popularity by having dumb folks driving the ship! LOL!!!!!! What level of popularity? Their merchandise is junk, other than I`ve been told by those who golf, that their pro-shop is good. Their hunting gear is miserable. The selection is awful and the quality is way substandard. More than even that, their position on firearms has been contentious at best, insulting to law-abiding gun owners, and an assault on the Second Amendment at worst. I can only speak for myself and my family, but that place will never see a dime of my family`s money again. I do hope they crash and burn. But really, I`ve felt that from day one. When Galyan`s sold out to Dicks, I called one of their stores a few days after they opened and asked for a price quote on a handgun I was planning on buying. The person on the other end of the phone took a tone, had an edge in their voice as they let me know, they don`t sell handguns because they`re a "family-friendly store". So maybe they have some "level of popularity" with some folks, but I happen to know a great deal of people who would drive anywhere on the planet to do business with a real sporting goods store before they`d set foot in a Dicks.

I buy my guns and ammo at Rural King. Good prices, and they employ lots of farm kids from around here. Gun cases, cleaning supplies etc Other outdoor stuff too. I buy a lot of hunting stuff from Big R which is owned by Rural King. Nice one stop shop imo.

I have to admit... I went into Dick’s in Evansville.
My wife was picking out birthday and anniversary cards at Marian’s Hallmark store next to Dick’s when nature called me. Marian’s does not have a public restroom so I went to Dick’s.
They had a nice selection of long guns that I’m sure they will keep for quite awhile...
Too bad...

My last two handguns were bought through Rural King. I ordered them on line at rkguns.com and picked them up at the store.

I guess their Field & Stream stores will be following others store closings. No reason to go into a hunting store without guns and ammo.

I could not find anything about Dicks Sporting Goods store in either of these two links above. All it did was take me to the Yahoo home page. I scrolled down and didn't find anything either. Lots of other stories that I might want to read later on.

Yesterday I was in need of a new TV and a new self inflating sleeping pad. So I went to Best Buy in Evansville, IN. Then I went to Allied Sporting Goods just down the street on Burkhardt St. Guess where I didn't go? Dick's Sporting Goods Store is right next to Best Buy and I didn't even look thier way when I went into Best Buy to look for the TV. And when I left Best Buy I went left to Allied and didn't even think about buying the self Inflating Air Mattress from Dick's. Dicks's stand on selling guns and ammo just cost them another sale of a non gun related item. I spent over over $100 yesterday between Allied and Home Depot.

Some good news for gun owners and AR15 owners too. A court in California Federal District Court rules that the California ban on large magazines for guns is unconstitutional. The law is stuck down for now. California will most likely appear the lower courts decision to the 9th circuit appeals court. This will end up in the US Supreme Court hopefully and the 2 new justices will side with the majority and tell California to stop harassing gun owners now and in the future.

I said when all this started, this was a strategic business decision. They simply used an unrelated tragedy to generate buzz (both good and bad) to bolster sales in other departments. Both sides gets to feel like they won because hunting type sales show a hurt to the company and they get to remove the items at the same time as moving sales dollars to other areas.
Field and Stream stores will end up getting sold for a premium since they are preforming well. Sportsmen will get to say they win because Dick's loses the income and the opposition gets to say they won because Dick's is moving completely away from gun related material.

I officially have no use for Dick's. The store in Clarksville is basically in the same parking lot as BPS and the New Albany Wal-Mart has and excellent outdoors section.
The strongest way to express an opinion is often with one's wallet.

And Dick's is counting on the anti crowd to do that at a rate higher than the dwindling hunting population that actually shopped there.

I think you hit the nail on the head.
I would add this...I think it's not only the anti-hunters, but the non-hunters that they are hoping will spend enough money to offset the lost profits from hunting AND fishing.
FWIW, I noticed the local Meijer near me seems to have done away with their ammo case. Anyone else noticed that or did I just happen to catch them in the middle of a remodel and perhaps the ammo case will re-appear?
