My wood bows are probably in the 160 fps range. Still enough to kill a deer.

I have a Wicked Ridge Invader HP. I think it`s rated at "only" 310 FPS. I hunt with the NAP 100 grain Spitfire, and no deer I`ve ever killed has gone more than 40 yards, and the blood trails have been ridiculous.

Was as americans for some reason seem to be obsessed with speed. We will race anything....I saw drone races the other day on TV! We see this in firearms in all the specialty Short Magnum cartridges and the like....all to gain a couple hundred extra fps. Speed was all the rage in compounds a decade ago. If you didn't shoot 300 or 325 fps you had a piece of junk. X-bows are now doing the same thing. Faster means some more range to most folks. We have it beat into our heads that faster is better...... Fact is it's all marketing. I shoot a sub 275fps compound....I shoot a sub 325 fps x-bow, I shoot a 30/30 or 308....nothing fancy or super fast. Yet the deer still die. Marketing makes us think that those extra fps means a little more range and being able to kill that monster that would otherwise be just out of range. They want us to think that it makes us a better hunter and we can show off to our buddies over it. And somehow they make us rationalize that we will pay top dollar to gain those extra few precious fps. Look at the price difference between a 350 fps X-bow and a 400 fps X-bow from the same maker..... at 350 fps a 30yard shot puts the bolt in flight for .257 seconds.....at 400 fps it's .225 seconds....Barnett X bow at 400 fps retails for $600, same bow at 350fps is $400......so your paying $200 to gain 3 hundredths of a second in speed over a 30 yard shot!

Ha.....I am so terrible at that stuff. I only deal with 110 or less because I have a way of shocking myself and you want to see the de-evolution of mankind? Watch me try to use a new computer! it starts out ok and then goes downhill quickly as I have to learn to navigate a new OS and then drives are lost, short-cuts are gone and the like and eventually I'm banging it on the table and cursing..... I prefer design and manufacturing....mechanical stuff. Stuff I can touch....and not let the smoke out of!

Most of the time is low voltage of 480 VAC 3PH down to 24vdc. Now it just 120VAC/DC. A lot safer.

Speed thrills...accuracy kills.. . Agreed...mostly. Speed obviously is very beneficial, as the faster the projectile, the less the shooter needs to worry about adjusting/allowing for distance. If I could shoot my crossbow with one line on the scope from zero to 50 yards, that not only makes me a LOT less likely to miss making a good, clean, killing shot, but it also removes any stress when a deer sighting has my adrenaline racing and my blood pressure through the roof. But yes, of course, accuracy trumps all.

Accuracy and ability to work on it yourself is very important if you don't have a shop close. This is why I chose Excalibur. I also love being able to let it down after a hunt without shooting a bolt.
I am shooting about 305FPS which seems to be a sweet spot for power, accuracy, and lower noise levels. Blows right through the deer too.

Lots of good options out there now though!
