We are headed out west at the end of the month and the kids are wanting to go trout fishing. Seems the common set ip.to use outside of fly fishing, which I've never done, is the fly/bubble method or inline spinners. What flies would work? Bass Pro and Cabelas both have kits with multiple flies in them, but im clueless as to what to look for. Any suggestions?

I would wait until you get to where you will be fishing and find out what they are using. No sense spending a bunch of money on something that won't work.

You gotta match the hatch.

totally depends on where and when you are going. Trout feed 90% of the time on aquatic insects underwater, called nymphs. So the "bubble rig" you are referring to is probably a nymph rig with a "strike indicator". Nymphing is really tough for little kids. how old are they? In fact, I would not even try fly fishing unless the kid was about 12 or so. If I were you, I would call a fly shop in the area you are fishing and get a guide for your fist 1/2 day. Most guides are fine with sharing their local knowledge and many welcome kids above a certain age. It's expensive but at least then you'll be dialed in for the rest of the trip.

Inline spinners like Rooster Tails, spoons like Little Cleo or Castmaster. Also if it's in a pond or lake, power bait/hook/bobber.
