Axle to Axle Length and Accuracy

Yesterday I was at the archery pro shop dropping off my bow. I was talking with the owner and asked him how business was. We started talking about what was selling. He said that he has sold more of the new Mathews Triax than any bow since he has been in business, which is a long time. I was surprised since this is a 28" axle to axle bow. To me that is a short bow. I have always believed that accuracy and a/a length were directly related. Meaning that the longer the a/a the greater potential for accuracy. That is based on what pro archers shoot and my short lived ownership of a 30" a/a bow.
Any thoughts, reflections or experiences with a "short" bow?
