Just got a notification that TSS shells were in stock. I thought Hevi13 Magnum Blend was expensive. Hope they are worth it!

Apex is about 10 per shell. That TSS shot is not cheap. I bought 5 lbs for 42 bucks a lb. I have 6.50 in each shell. 2 of the birds I killed this year where at 77 yards and 70 yards it dropped them both without even a flop.

If you hunt primarily in the woods, yes. If you are a field hunter than that's your call. I've switched to the long beards in my 20. I strictly hunt woods. Got several buddies that use the tss and the woods hunt. They all exclaim the amount of shot at distances. That's great but good luck shooting 60 - 70 yards in the hard woods. At 15 yards you're throwing a golf ball at a moving head. The longbeards in my 20 are bad enough. I shot mine at 8 steps, not yards, last year. His neck was held on by skin. It's a trade-off and depending on what you are after. I'm a firm believer if you're hunting woods primarily that you can shoot too tight a pattern.

I agree. That's why lots of guys are going to Youth compact 20 and 410s with TSS.

As I understand it the number 9s aren't legal in Indiana.

Legal Equipment
Turkeys can be hunted only with:
A 10-, 12-, 16- or 20-gauge shotgun loaded with pellets of size No. 4, 5, 6, 7 or 7½. Nontoxic shot is required while hunting turkey on some DNR properties. Call the property for additional information.
A muzzleloading shotgun not smaller than 20-gauge and not larger than 10-gauge, loaded with pellets of size No. 4, 5, 6, 7 or 7½. Combination loads using shot sizes other than these are illegal.

we need the Indiana DNR to allow #9's with a specific density >12 In June the DNR will be taking new input for changes. That would be the time to do it. Hopefully the legislature stays out of that suggestions as no telling what they would come up with. The DNR does not allow .410s for turkey hunting (but do for deer) but with these new shells a .410 is a very good choice fir youngsters and fairly close shooting..

Nice light weight 410 would be great for anyone especially kids. Can produce great pattern out to 40 yards from what I have seen.

The day .410 is legal is the day I'll make the switch. Im not a huge fan of them for youth as the margin or error is slim. While shooting high density loads out of them they are getting real nice patterns out to 40, they have to be choked super tight. Anything below 20 and again you're throwing a golf ball. With anything larger you can compensate between stretching out to 40 but still have a semi spread out pattern at 20 and under. When I take kids out I'll let them use my 20 but load with Winchester super x 5's. Still hold enough to reach out to 40 but open enough closer in. I'll switch to the longbeard when I carry.

I will have to ask the guy in the club that uses a 410 about his 20 yard pattern. I know at 40 he gets 127 in a 10inch circle and 140 in 20 inch circle.

First impression is to wait till #9's are legal. 133 hits in 10inch circle at 40 yards. Using the same set up I get over 200 with hevi shot. Penetration is however impressive! I'll try to get some picks up when things slow down. For now it's hard to hevi 7's or magnum blend.
