Any one on here use or have shot a Traditions striker fire muzzleloader? Any thoughts or concerns?

I have a Remington Genesis, made by Traditions. Not a striker fire design, but I can say the gun shoots great. I use 100 grains of Blackhorn 209 and 350 grain Hornady FPBs.

Thanks for the reply! I've been needing a new muzzleloader (rather just A muzzleloader) for a long time now and I think this is the one I decided on. I've looked at several makes and models and traditions seem to have gotten a lot of good reviews and traction with this one. It's not super expensive nor is it too cheap to make me fear its reliablility.

I can say that mine is what I'd call good quality, not great. Not great metal in the receiver area, plastic trigger group and plastic stocks of course, but I've had it quite a while now and nothing has gone wrong with it. I got it on sale from Cabelas for about $175 as I recall. One good thing about a "cheap" gun is you don't mind taking it out in bad weather and it doesn't bother you to put a scratch or three in it.
Not sure about the model you're looking at, but some of the Traditions guns seem to have longer barrels than I like.

It has a 28" barrel. Seems long to me but, I'll see how it shoots once I get my scope.

Looks good. What bullets do you plan to shoot? If you like conicals, I've had great luck with Hornady FPBs. They come in 300 and 350 grain, and work well on deer.

Not sure yet. I'll definitely look at those. Do you shoot them with a magnum load or 100 grain?

100 grains of Blackhorn 209, by volume. That's 70 grains if you weigh on a scale. Blackhorn estimates 1701 fps with this load. They say you can go to 120 grains by volume (84 grains by weight) and estimate 1901 fps for that load. These loads equate to some of the better sabot slug loads out there. They list faster sabot loadings, but I like the 50 caliber bullet and the heavier weight. Here's a link to Blackhorn's load data for some popular bullets: www.blackhorn209.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/b209muzzleloaderdata.pdf

Thanks a lot for the information. It there an advantage to using loose powder over pellets?

With loose powder you can tailor your load without any problem. Maybe 110 grains is the magic number for a given rifle and bullet. Can't get there with pellets as far as I know. Loose powder is generally cheaper than pellets.
BH 209 does not come in pellets anyway, and I'm pretty much not shooting anything else unless something better comes along.

So with the pellets, you can remove the breech and unload the muzzleloader. Can you do the same with loose powder? I'm assuming not but, I would hate to not at least ask.

With my gun I suppose it is possible to save the powder, but it wouldn't be all that convenient.
Other designs may allow for dumping the powder out without it getting all over the place or contaminated by breech plug grease, etc.
Another good thing about BH 209, you don't need to grease the breech plug. I like to use a wrap of pink teflon tape at the forward end of the plug, just to seal it completely and keep the threads dirt free.

Still waiting on my muzzleloader to arrive. Made the purchase from Bud's Gun Shop online. However, I received an email from them requesting a call. They said they had an inventory error and didn't have the one I actually purchased in stock and we're unsure when it if they'd get it again. So, I purchased a different looking one. Same make model but with camo stock and the dark barrel. Cost a little more too.

What are your pros and cons? Do you have nitride or cerekote model? I've looked at Budds, gander, Cabela's, but Walmart has the cheapest. Of course I believe it may lack nitride or cerekote finishes. I'm tempted to get the LDR just because it's full camo and cerakote finish. But it's another $150+ for that and 2 inches of barrel. (30") compared to Walmarts. Ready to pull the trigger either CVA Optima or strikerfire as my 00 CVA staghorn inline is a pain to clean and after changing the breech over to 209 primers is a pain to load primers with fat fingers or with a primer tool.
