On the other forum I frequent this discussion get VERY lively when brought up. The "spray vs gun" debate is one that I fall on the gun side. Here in CO I don't feel it necessary to worry about with blackies. I generally am hunting gun season anyway and am bear-aware in how I operate. As for griz country, my position is formulated like this: In my younger days I was an LEO and through that and the military have been exposed to both OC and CS on a fairly regular basis. While very annoying I didn't personally find either to be debilitating. Second, as an LEO I witnessed several individuals who were absolutely unfazed(for whatever reason) by OC. Further, bear spray (OC) is meant to be deployed at a fair distance. While hunting in the mountains weather (especially wind) can be extreme and I do not want to take a chance with the plume being blown away, or worse yet blown at ME, due to a wind gust. I am confident in my training that I can put rounds on targets in a stressful situation and feel my 45 offer me a better chance in the end.
