I can fall just as far putting up Christmas decorations on the 2nd story of my house. Harnesses for that too? I say no.

I 100% believe in harnesses and will NOT get in a stand without one.
So, how in the world could this be enforced other than CO's walking through the woods? Even if hunters were checked when entering a controlled area, who's to say they are in fact getting in a tree? Even then, there's not verification of use. Other than field-verification, the only way to prove a violation is if someone falls. Then, in some cases, it would be like giving a speeding ticket to someone that died in a car crash.
I agree with the intent, but don't see how to actually enforce.

In the construction industry you dont wear a harness without proper training.... I would think that would be a requirment if there was a harness mandate for hunting.

But yet we still don't mandate helmets for motorcycle riding. How many people die from tree stand falls per year compared to motorcycles? A bit harsh but I'm tired of the government trying to punish stupidity away.

Mandate the people. Let’s mandate everything. People who are for more laws are against personal liberty and freedom. Why did God ever create man to begin with, oh wait now I know! to tell his fellow man he was mandated.

I'm well past fed up with all this nanny state nonsense. How about a return to personal responsibility. If you want the individual to cover the incurred costs to rescue the his foolish behind because didn't wear a harness I'd be OK with that.

Hey, while they are at it why don't we have the state start mandating that people need to have their tree stands inspected every year to make sure they are safe to use? And of course, those inspections will cost the hunter a nominal fee.
Oh and what about yearly hunting safety courses and range qualifications so we can make sure everyone in the woods is a certified to be proficient in the use of their weapon?
/sarcasm
Good grief. Nanny state nonsense indeed.

Nanny state nonsense indeed. I've been a member of the same gun range for 35 years. Last year the "president" decided that we needed to have a review of the rules. So an hour and a half later, I went along my merry way, with my safety rules booklet in hand... Well...sometime over the holdays, I guess the folks that run the range decided that giving them an hour and a half of my time wasn't enough as they have now decided that we have to go through this "training" every year from now on... I can see it every few years. I can see it if there are a lot of rules being violated. I can see it for new members... But why in the h*ll do I need to do this every year from now on, when I never had to do it the first 34 years I was a member there?....

Mandated, no. But I will continue to wear mine as everyone else who hunts properties I own. Just common sense. Do you feel lucky?

How bout we don’t mandate it but make it a law that I don’t have to pay for your lifelong disability if you fall without wearing one? Same for not wearing a seatbelt. Same for not wearing a helmet.

That'll pass alongside the bill that says we don't need to pay medical care of drug abusers or pay to house criminals in jail.

I'd be more agreeable if the review consisted of more than a grumpy old man reading the rule book word for word. I decided to not renew my membership. Not just because of the safety class, but it was a contributing factor.

There are enough mandates to go around! Now we have all gotten used to being strapped into our vehicle, they want to strap us to a tree! If I must be strapped to something I'd prefer the dinner table! Wade

Laws are a plague. They always begin with good intentions but progressively erode every aspect of our freedom. Look at gun laws. Where did they start, one day all guns will be banned. Free speech? Today a lot of speech is considered hate speech. The attack on religious institutions? Only a blind man can’t recognize where all laws that aren’t God’s laws lead - enslavement to government - socialism. More laws don’t cure anything. They make criminals of the righteous. Let me answer to God for my actions one day, His laws are the only ones I care about. I vote against all other as being contrary to freedom.
