Senate bills are starting to show up. It's really funny reading some of these proposals others not so much. iga.in.gov/legislative/2018/bills/Some selected ones: SB20 - deer hunting SB26 - cold beer sales SB103 - English as official language SB111 - prohibited equipment on firearms (bump stocks, etc) SB120 - makes use of telecommunications devices while driving a felony I'm sure some more entertaining bills will appear in the weeks to come. New ones:
SB198 - allows out-of-state disabled vets to purchase hunting licenses at same rate as residents. SB275 - sets aside 30% of each state forest as "old forests" and prohibits DNR from managing those areas SB312 - sets aside "wild areas" in 13 state forests and prevents DNR from managing those areas. SB313 - Requires that, before a permit, lease, or contract is issued to a person to remove merchantable timber, the person must secure a written approval from all counties in which any truck to be used in the removal operation is to be driven.

Im assuming most of these are in response to Yellowwood?

275 and 312 together could take a big chunk of property away from the dnr. Especially since they didn’t define how big the “wild areas” are. Trying all they can to stop logging on the state forests. I’ll never understand that side of the argument.

So apparently the fires out west the past 6 months hadn't done anything to wake these people up.

313 is a joke. That could be interpreted to the pickup trucks used to transport crews to the logging site with their chain saws and other tools to assist in the "removal" operation. I hope that one never even gets out of committee.

Ive been very bored in the hospital so I picked random bills that sound stupid and guessed whether or not the author is a Democrat or Republican. Its a fun game.

Watching the Senate Judiciary Committee debate the rifle bill (SB20). Amazing how they can screw up even the simplest issue.
Bill passes out of committee by 8-1.

SB20 has gone through second reading and is ready for vote. Likely to pass and then on to the House.

HB1292 passes the Senate Natural Resources Committee by 9-0. Expect the bill to be debated and an attempt to amend the bill during 2nd reading in the Senate this week. The amendment would take 30% of state forests and set them aside from logging over objections of sportsmen and state foresters. Tell your Senator to vote against any amendment to the DNR bill.

HB1292 passed Senate on third reading 48-0 with no amendments introduced. Tree huggers put off for another year. Many thanks to all who contacted their legislators.
