That's funny, Ohio is not in the top 10. The add two extra days of gun season and now off the list. Hope to get out the 16/17th and prove them wrong!

Hate seeing that But on the other hand Indiana needs to bump up the NR fees real quick or their going to loose out Big Time

The article mentions that hunters in Indiana have a 50% success rate .... but without knowing exactly how many take the field each year with landowner or lifetime licenses that number would be artificially high. I have long believed our success rate to be 38-40%.

Indiana is listed as #2, but according to some there aren't deer (not trophy bucks, but just "deer") anywhere to be found in the northern half of the state.
But...if inexpensive, unlimited, non resident over the counter tags and land that is still relatively cheap and available to lease is a huge part of being ranked number #2, then Indiana is probably #2.
I've said for years that Indiana needs to get a handle on the unlimited otc tags and raise the costs for non-residents before Indiana hunters are like many Iowa and Illinois hunters and find themselves on the outside looking in as they've been priced out of deer hunting in their home states...

Much of that bologna ranking Indiana #2 has to be based on opportunity and cost of tags. Any list that doesn't include Wisconsin or Ohio, whatever. I would agree with Kentucky being #1. jjas is right, we are going to get over run with non-resident leasing if something doesn't happen fast. Iowa has that figured out.

Its not an article of where to kill big bucks ..... it is about access, cost, success.

Come to the SE part of the state and look at all the nonresident license plates already

As a non-resident, if I didn't have land access, I wouldn't be able to justify the $400 in tags I buy every year. Since all of my family is in Indiana, I would be quite upset if all-of-a-sudden I couldn't hunt with them because I couldn't draw a tag. Maybe it's time I start looking to move back into Indiana just for the cost-savings, hahaha.

Should be at least the reciprocal of what the other state charges they live in.

Wouldn't they have to lower the prices to match other states then? Some states per deer is cheaper then ours I do believe.

Ohio is free on own land etc. Annual hunting is $19 and a deer of either sex is $24 each. Where I live it's 4 deer and of the 4 only 1 can be a buck. So, $43 for first, and $24 each for the next three. By the way, 4 in one county is the most allowed.

If it were up to me, I would compare the prices of the 10 most comparable states to ours and find the average of those 10 states prices. Add 10% and call it a day.
I would also not sell a non-resident "deer" license. It would be "antlered deer" or "antlerless deer". No tag that is good for either.
