I am in the process of leasing a property with a lot of acreage and the locations of our stands will be quite a hike to get to. I was wondering who all uses any type of alternative method to get to their stands. If you do use a side by side or ATV, do you try to conceal it or just let it sit? I'm not too lazy to hike it myself but it would be nice to have a ride for my dad if he wants to hunt with me.

I park the truck out in the field a lot of times. I just put it down in a sinkhole, deer can't even see it usually.

I use them all the time to drop off my climber, then park it couple hundred yards away. Never had an issue and always killed deer.

We get dropped off at our stands in a utility truck most of the time. My Dad drives it all over the property so the deer are use to it. We will drive by does in the field at 20 yards and they don't run. I figure the sound of that truck dropping me off and driving away is better than the sound of me walking on dry leaves to my stand. It keeps our scent down also. We get dropped off at the base of the tree or within a few yards of it. I've had deer walk by within 5 minutes of being dropped off at the stand.

I dive down the gravel/grass road and pull over and then walk the last couple hundred yards. Same deal. Deer don't mind the gravel road. I do make sure where the car or truck is away from the trails that cross the road.

I own an ATV and a UTV but don’t use them to get to and from the stand, many of which are a half mile plus walk. I need and enjoy the exercise. Use these machines or a tractor to fetch down deer if they are in someplace tough to get to, but frequently it’s about as easy to just drive the truck close or use a deer cart. ATVs and tractor are a real back saver when you’re by yourself or knock one down in a bad spot.

I got them all, Atv Utv and tractors. I used to drive in, but started walking back. Seeing a lot more deer and not spooking them off. But I’m not back there as much as I used to be either riding around or on tractor. they definitely get used to seeing you if around them on equipment a lot. They won’t spook. Most time as long as you didn’t stop you could get pretty close.

I walk. It's nearly 1/2 mile just to get to my property and then another little bit or a lot a bit to get to a stand.
Dad has a hard time walking the length of a football field so as soon as gun season rolls around he uses my ranger.
Personally I think they do absolutely no good but how much harm they do can be debated till the cows come home....but it's the only way dad can still hunt with me so I hope he continues to use it for years and years.

used them a lot and deer don't seem to mind but I hunt around a lot of agriculture fields where deer are used to seeing trucks and atvs. actually have watched them walk within feet of them when parked hunting and can drive thru field with minimal spooking at night. Last year one of the largest bucks seen was actually on a scouting ride right at beginning of season. Buck came from other side of road and walked within ten feet of truck with us in it. Surprised both but he just walked right on by. Put some camo on and it is different story.

Drive mine as close to the stand. Never had any react real negative to it. Most just skirt it. Suppose some I didn't see had an adverse effect to it.
Now turkeys on the other hand. Had them almost brush up against it when walking by. For an animal that is so hard to kill, they sure are dumb.

I usually ride my 4 wheeler part way in the evening,NEVER in the morning. Seems to be you can get away with more driving in the afternoon than pre dawn darkness.

I walk to my stands but believe if the deer are used to certain activity that it doesnt bother them much. Checking cameras in Kentucky this weekend I came across several.pics from.2 weeks ago of my uncle's truck at the other end of the food plot while he worked on a stand. At least 1 doe and 2 bucks passed through while the truck was in the back ground 100yds away.

.... if your hunting mature Deer you need to be walking! Huge difference between "a" deer and "the" deer. Last year opening day gun my brother drove to the field edge and I didn't know. Around 1pm I saw him walk out and leave. It wasn't 15 minutes and the biggest buck trotted past me to the lane where the truck was parked. That's the one I couldn't find in the thickest. Buck knew when to get up and move. Who wa hunting who!

I walk; longest was one spot in KY that was about a mile in. We leave the vehicle somewhere that vehicles are normally about.

I don't own any properties or hunt any that are so huge I would feel the need to use one personally...but if health were a factor I would in a heartbeat. I do believe they disturb far less deer than they do...but then again I personally am not targeting most deer, I'm attempting (I fail constantly) to harvest that top 10% of bucks on the properties and always fear doing anything to close that possibility.

Sorry for the delayed response, they said as long as we don't damage the crops while they're still in or rut the field when the crops are out its not a problem. Once the corn is taken out this wont be an issue. I just got the lease this week, next year I will make sure to keep a path trimmed to both sections of woods so I wont have to worry about getting back to them.
