With the exception of the Savage smokeless, there were many cartridges that greatly expanded the range of the slug guns and sub shooting muzzleloaders.

Do you remember that guy who used to post here, Ironhorseman, I think his screen name was. Oooh boy, he was a HUGE hunter. Killed 'em all over the place, biggest you ever seen. His wife, his son, his 5 year old little daughter even wanted to hunt I think. He was all over every Indiana hunting board. Expert about every thing, if only they could use pistol cartridge rifles...
Oh, I don't think I've heard a single word about him since the legislation passed. He must be busy hunting 24/7 now with his little girl who loved to hunt but just couldn't handle anything more than a 44 mag in a rifle. Or I guess he could have been a shill for rifle sellers.

Jack the person your was "IronSights" ... he was a ringer that came along to fight the PCR debate.... he faded away after they became legal!

Very few hunters 10 years ago were shooting and hunting with the Savage smokeless MZ. My Ruger .44 and my 870 or Ithaca DeerSlayer II both have about the same range.. Of course back then no one envisioned the Hoosier .358.

He moved to Wyoming so probably does not have an interest in Indiana game laws any longer and last I heard he was slaying pronghorns, mulies, whitetails, coyotes, bears, elk, mountain goats and Big Foots..er.. Big Feet Personally I enjoyed his posts...

I owned 2 Savage smokeless MZ's 10 years ago and before the 2008 season I had purchased a 358BFG and 5 friends had purchased 358BFG barrels for their encores.
Just the ones I know about.
There were guys working on wildcats the second the proposed regulations came out.

I'm thinking Ironhorseman or something like that because I remember it being more a motorcycle related name than guns. This guy even acknowledged eventually he worked at a gun shop on at least one forum.

I only knew of a couple folks that had the Savages before the regulation change. Very few folks thought of wildcats coming into play after the change.

Not something to really discuss...what was said back then was not accurate.

Not something to really discuss...what was said back then was not accurate. Ain't that the truth! And I'll bet you there are a lot of guys who were saying back then "It's not hardly a bit different from a shot gun... a rifled barrel shotgun with high falut'n fancy slugs can shoot a mile. It says so right on the box!" and I'd bet you this very day they are posting how it will cripple them to go back to a shot gun because a PCR is so much more accurate and it can kill a deer so much better at 3 times as far... LOL

I was wondering how long it had been since it passed, but since I was only hunting with my T/C Contender pistol and muzzle loader it didn't really effect me much. I did a few years later get a 44 Mag. rifle barrel for the Contender though. I've only went hunting with a shotgun once and that was only because I was having trouble with my Ruger New Model Super Blackhawk but didn't even see 1 that day.
