Was just wondering how many out there carry regularly if not almost always while deer or turkey hunting, especially bow hunting and if yes is there a particular reason or past experience as to why you carry?
I usually don't carry but three years ago that all changed. I was turkey scouting private land to roost the birds for next mornings hunt with my sons and it was a pretty hot evening and my boys elected to stay back by the truck in the shade of some trees with cold drinks. I was at the last third of the property when I heard what I thought was a deer running through the woods in my direction. Sure enough it turned out to be 3 does, and to my surprise they went right past me at about 30-40 feet and saw me but could care less.
That struck me as strange and just about when I was pondering why and coming up with reasons three of them came into view, all large nasty looking dogs. I always walk with a 7' long cut off sapling that serves as a walking stick and spider web remover, so using this large pole I took an aggressive stance and once the dogs saw me and began to bark at me I rushed them yelling and waiving my walking pole at them and they broke and took off running.
I came away from that wishing the XD45 Tactical that was back in my truck was with me and will be in the future. I wouldn't have shot any of them unless absolutely necessary, but I would have considered firing a shot in the ground near them as a deterrent. From that day on I now carry if I'm not already carrying a rifle or shotgun.

Any thing I'm carrying to kill deer with will be more than enough for dogs or man. If it won't kill a dog, it's sure not good enough for deer.
If you are really worried about attacking dogs, you better pick up a shot gun, or may be give a try on a dog size running target in the time it would take a dog to reach you.
Then you'll beg for a shot gun.

I don't generally carry while hunting, but my wife and I are taking a week long backpacking trip in the U.P. and I will absolutely be carrying there.

I carry because I’m scared of the coyotes. They give me the creeps. I’ve never used that handgun yet but it makes me feel better to have it.

I always carry because you just never know. Especially during archery season.

Yes, always. You never know when you may stumble upon a meth lab or pot grow. Those perpetrators don't follow the law, especially property lines.

I have a 22 revolver that is a permanent fixture in my pack, then my Blackhawk level 2 fits right on my harness chest strap to keep my Glock 27 easily accessible.

Yes, especially fishing. This is a true story:
One spring warm morning I finished college classes early and I went to my parents place in East Enterprise to go fishing. My parents where not there, so I was fishing by myself. After about an hour a pack of wild dogs came from across the street and surrounded me from one edge of the lake to the other side edge. They were about 50/60 out on each side. After a few minutes they started slowly moving in from all 20 dogs. As I turned they would stop. After a review of the dogs I knew which one was the alpha dog. He always stepped first. I big black dog. My fishing rod was a two piece rod, so I put the two together and wrapped it with the fishing line. When the dogs got within 20 yards I took a full run yelling all the time and took the fishing rod and hit the black dog right in the head. All 20 dogs ran back across the street and stopped about 80 yards out and in a perpendicular line to me. My rod broke in half. I then ran straight at the black dog and luckily the dogs turned and ran off. I was very concerned that I had no escape route. I thought going in to the lake was a worse solution. I know must dogs if not all are good swimmers. I had one option and that was taking out the alpha dog. That's why I always have one. Learned my lesson.

In 40+ years of deer hunting, I've never felt the need to carry a sidearm. Just one more thing to lug around and I'm always toting a weapon anyway.

Always carry especially in the woods. We have property that doesn’t get visited often and we have found pot growing on there two separate occasions. We used to have an issue with trespassers hunting out there as well. When I first started to hunt I used to do a lot of ground hunting and had an encounter with a few dogs running around the woods. It was scary at first but once the dogs realized I was a person they started wagging their tails and wouldn’t leave me alone. I rarely visit our farm without carrying.

Sometimes I will carry during bow season in case a coyote comes by. With my bow I would have 1 shot within 15 yards. I could empty a handgun at a longer range in the same amount of time.
