I don't see that anywhere... How where PCR legal last year? Looks like they shouldn't of been and there was a over sight IMO Yup.

Hmm.... Was the "additional rifles" in the seemingly inaccurate hunting guide?

Hmm.... Was the "additional rifles" in the seemingly inaccurate hunting guide? May have been, yep. I think it was in the "old" 2017 guide, as well. Bottom line, it's all a mess that will unfortunately be pinned solely on the DNR by most "uninformed" folks.

if anyone needs a dedicated fixed-barrel scoped slug gun for public, send me a pm, I got it right before rifles were made legal and no longer need it. (hope this is OK to post!)

Well I hope they get it figured out. It is not that hard to figure out a "fix".

Bottom line, it's all a mess that will unfortunately be pinned solely on the DNR by most "uninformed" folks. If they would have adjusted the rules to begin with the legislators could have left well enough alone. Putting these rules in as an IC makes rule changes hard, as we are finding out. The legislators are responding to their constituents. Not beating up DNR but they could have controlled this. And if it is true that rep from DNR reviewed the language to be inserted into IC....they are not without blame. It is unfortunate that the hunters are getting the jerk around over this mess.

Duff, you're exactly right. It's a real shame and careless, its called proof reading before signing or submitting. Bottom line is, it doesn't effect them so they really don't care. Not being mean but it would be nice if it somehow it effected there revenue this year. Then maybe someone would proof read things in the future. Complaining never fixes anything until it effects there pockets. Elections is nice way of showing our voice.

Our entire set of deer regs are ridiculous. Way too nuanced and complicated. The entire set needs thrown out and the "reset" button needs to be hit. I think we could keep the same basic rules and vastly simplify the system.
How many different deer licenses do we have? Firearms, muzzleloader, archery, bundle, bonus antlerless, youth, military refuge, urban? I'm probably leaving out a few.
Firearms.. this caliber legal here, not there. You can have x amount of rounds for this gun but not that gun. Cherry picking certain calibers. Guns allowed during January in this county but not the neighboring county.
I hunt several states per year, I'm up to 8 states now.. Indiana far and away has the most complicated rules of any state I've hunted, and on top of that they change literally every year. The DNR may not be to blame for this particular rifle fiasco, but IMO they do hold blame for the overall screwiness of our rules.

I concur it is crazy and simplification IMO at least could definitely be achieved. I would say some of the issue arises from folks never being willing to accept the current "set of laws/regs". People scream long enough to wear down either the DNR or legislatures and a change happens....then a new bunch scream until a change happens....I don't envy anyone in the upper DNR levels personally. It would get excruciatingly old.

I have said for years that Indiana needs to put a lock on Hunting/Trapping regulations and form a "council" of hunters, trappers, officers, management, and lawyers to rewrite the entire regulation book. At the end of the process, have the legislature abolish all current regulations and implement the new ones under one law.
I've got some free time, so I'm willing to volunteer.

I've said for years throw ours in the trash, grab KY's and rework the zones for IN, insert and you're done.

No accidents involving hpr while deer hunting that I heard. I did see pictures of a guys barn that was hit with a few rounds from careless neighbors target practice but that could have happened regardless of the rule change.
