Ok, I'm gonna say it.
Minus all other factors besides harvest numbers, it looks like the deer herd is down compared to years past.
Congratulations DNR! You set a goal and are accomplishing it.

IDK there are several variable's at play here IMO. Weather and late crop harvest in many area's(Still way behind my county) but I believe the main reason is hunter's themselves. You don't have to look very hard to see all the complaints on social media and hunting website's as to low deer number's in many area's. So maybe just that hunter's are deciding to shoot less antlerless deer this year??? The number's above are assuming end of today into totals so I would again guess several hundred more will fall today making harvest down less than 1% but down slightly nonetheless.

To this point, the numbers look comparable to last season's totals.
But...with the firearms season starting on the 18th, (plus the pcr snafu), I expect this season's overall harvest numbers to be lower than last years.

Hopefully the PCR thing will get straightened out temporarily before the gun season. The late gun start might produce more deer in the season in the long run. The late start means that bowhunters have an extra 6 days to kill more deer. IIRC gun season usually produces about the same amount of deer in the long run no matter what the start date is. Interesting..... .

The long range weather forecast, as we all know can change numerous times, calls for a rainy Gun opening weekend..
