We backed out and decided that I primarily hit the buck in no man's land, but as Woody stated, I clipped the top of a lung/an artery. He should make it fine after tracking him about a mile then the blood plugged up. It sounds like it may be a backstrap hit to me. They'll bleed bright red blood pretty profusely, but survive. I shot a doe like that at 12 yards once, and she ran a little ways then stopped. I could actually hear the blood hitting the leaves. I put a second arrow into her, which did the job. Imagine my surprise upon discovering during field dressing that the first arrow had not penetrated the thoracic cavity as I had assumed. One other time I shot a buck at about the same distance, only to trail a ton of blood for over 400 yards -- until it crossed a highway. The arrow was sticking out of both sides. I saw that buck again in firearms season, but could not get a shot. I later found its sheds the following spring. Hang in there, and who knows, maybe you did kill it and will find it.

Yeah right now it's just killing me that I don't know...I'm also praying it doesn't have any long term effects if it does make it. Dude will be a dandy next year

I got this 7 pt buck today just after 8am. The woods was really quiet today after yesterdays rain & I just about missed him. But he stepped on a large stick that made a huge crack. Had to wait for him to get to the other side of the tree I was in. Took him at 20 yds. Not huge but will fill the freezer. imgur.com/a/K3L9AHe's a pretty one! Congrats!

Dude will be a dandy next year I helped a guy track a doe that had been shot in the shoulder last year. We gave it 2 hours, then tracked it several hundred yards right up to the deer, which ran off. He supposedly picked it back up the next day, but lost it again. I later saw it during firearms season, limping a little but otherwise looking good. It sucks, but there are things that everybody has to go through sometime or later. The important thing is what you learn and take away from the experience that should improve yourself as a hunter going forward.

Tonight leaving the woods I run into the deer I've been hunting at 10 yards. Here's what happened, I climbed down with my climber and I set up only 10 yards off a field but I'm facing the woods not the field, its a cut corn field. I have a quiet way in and out so its dark where you can't see in the woods but I dont need a flashlight. I walk out of the woods and look to my left and this 10 point huge buck is looking at me, were 10 yards apart and both froze just staring for 30 seconds. He's at least got 14-16 inch tines and a bunch of them, his main beams are big as coke cans at the base. I have my cross bow but no bolt nocked. He turns and takes off kicking up dirt. Saw this deer couple weeks ago in a morning hunt at 80 yards. Then riding my 4 wheeler back to my truck I jump a buck at another small woods, looked like a 6-8 in my headlights. Definitely going in the morning. And my 4 wheeler is only about 50 yards from this 10 pointer and didn't spook him.
