Wife wanted to do some painting on the new house so i decided to tag along and just go hunt behind the house tonight. Didn't even take the truck as i wasn't really planning on shooting anything. Wouldnt you know it i ended up having the best sit of the year. Seen 7 big doe and a 4 pointer. It snowed hard and blew the entire time, probably got 2 or 3 inches in the few hours i was out there. Also had a dinner to get to at 7 so wasnt messing with anything unless it was a big buck.

Well this morning seemed like the world was trying to tell me to stay home. Nothing like heading to your blind at legal light.
It's not too bad out right now, zero wind and in a blind. The heater is on standby in the corner.
Good luck to all who are out.

I have heard a shot - better than yesterday! Wind is definitely not as bad too I've heard more shots this morning than opening day of firearms. I think it helps that the 80 acres of corn to the East and the rest of the 200 acres to the West are harvested. Now if something will cooperate and visit my little spot of the world.

Them there deer actually did exactly what we want deer to do. 4 does came out of the bedding area about 200 yards to the north and fed across the field towards me. They turned and started entering the woods a bit early, but we can't have everything perfect.
Note to self. Run the range finder before getting into the blind and don't rely on the word of someone else. What I was told was about 75 yards ranged at 143 when I got out of the blind.
Swing and a miss with the Optima pistol. They went right down the 4 wheeler trail I cut this summer, past the oak flat stand, and into the oak flat thicket. Hunter #2 is in a blind about 500 yards farther around the valley.
They all lived to see another day.

Zip this am but lots of tracks in the new snow my guess is they know not to go out in daylight if the wind lays down I'm going to try a stand over cut corn but it's tough to take in the wind

Guys be set up at the warmest part of the day that’d be when the deer are moving Say 10:00 till 3:00or so that’s when yo get deer in cold weather works for me and has for 25 yr or so Love setting on a powerline break they’ll come out of the thickets and get in the sun

Went to my ace in the hole spot at Kingsbury FWA. First time there for deer. There was only a couple vehicles parked. Figured the deep snow scared them off. Walked way out to my spot, and oh no! They never planted any crops this year! Just 6' high grass. Then realized the entire place hadnt been planted. What the heck!

The Wilbur wright property didn't plant their fields this year either from what I had seen.

I was going to hunt the tree I killed my buck out of but someone beat me to that area. I went farther north to a south facing field I expect deer to bed in. About a dozen areas deer have bedded in that I saw. Found an old haul road with a saddle leading into the field. Gives me a 500 foot FOV and a 150 yard shot. Itll warm up fast this morning so I hope that despite the pressure the does will still come bed.

Greetings. The weather here has turned Baltic, minus ten centigrade last night, and now at 1.40pm it is minus three. I hate it, it is no good to man nor beast or stalkers. All it does is put One's heating bills up. Seen a cast buck cross the forest road, then an unknown deer, Then dog and I went for a walk and seen a young buck. On the way out at 11.15 we put a young doe up, it ran and stopped around two hundred yards and I put a rws through its shoulder. Took it to my larder and heck the water is frozen somewhere outside. I hate this cold, and until the roe get hungry they are going to stay under the trees. Even got my Putin hat on and peacock hand warmer on the go. Lol Out in half an hour for evening freezing stint. Regards Billy.
