If you want ladders tied on the tree like these guys are talking about, you can get an old TV, triangle type, tower about any where for free. Each section of that tower will make two or three ladder sections you can tie to the tree using these same knots or you can just use ratchet straps at the top and bottom. That's all that needs tied. You want the stress to all be hanging from the top. Not on the bottom leaning against the tree. Easy to put up using bungees. Then when you get it all where you want it, clamp it down tight with a ratchet strap at the top. If you just want to lean it against and climb up, you'll have to use the whole tower and that's HEAVY to pack in and out every day.

To make those iron steps just watch the scrap and junk tubs and piles. Weld the pipe on top solid. Then stick it all in the saw and start cutting off steps. A dollar's worth of scrap from the junk yard will make about 12 steps.

Honestly, anymore I love the sectioned climbing sticks. I bought and tested some Sportsmans guide ones just to see what I thought and for 3 sections at less than $40 give or take they are the bee's knees for a cheap option.
I have a couple public spots or also a spot or two on private that leaving steps out is a no-no due to theft. So I remove the bottom 1 or 2 and leave the top couple and stand up the tree. Many a public friend does this too.

I'm scared of heights. I don't even like the climbing sticks that go straight up.
I use either my climber or a ladder stand. Once I'm in I'm fine.

A dollar's worth of scrap from the junk yard will make about 12 steps. Those are pretty neat steps and I feel like I would trust them more than screw in steps anyway plus they look easier to install I used a lot of them, in a lot of places, for years and years. I couldn't even count how many I've made once I started making the steel ones but I made and used a ton of wooden ones before that. With cheap rope and wood I'd have thrown away if not for this use, I figure if they get stolen I haven't lost much. But, steal them they did. Now I pretty much only use my Summit Climber but once in a while I'll leave a stand up on private ground and tie those on. You can pull down the bottom three and make the first one higher than most people can get to just like taking the bottom screw ins. I've just thrown them under a bush along the way a lot of times and not carried them all the way in and out. Most people today couldn't figure out how to use them any way. One time some moron just took it all down and then threw the stand and steps and all in a fire pond next two it. The idiot couldn't use it, he just didn't like because I could. I knew a thief would be to lazy to carry a home made stand and steps. Sure enough a couple drags with a grapple next time I walked up there and out it all came.

Used enough of that hang on, chain on, strap on stuff over the years when I was younger, it's lucky I never took a bad fall. A dude I worked with uses a slick set up for public ground hunts. He has lightweight, tube steel, +/- 12' ladder stand that has lightweight bicycle wheels permanently attached near the seat if you can visualize. He rolls the stand in to his location, leans it up against the tree, stands it up and throws a rope around to hold it, then has a comfortable perch. When he shoots a deer, the stand doubles as a game cart to haul the them out very easily.

Just my 2 cents. If you ever had a screw in step break you will never use them again. (Happened twice to me). Also know guy bear hunting that had one break and he got inpaled on the step below. Ripped his gut wide open 10'up tree. I use climbing sticks only now.

I'm not scared of heights as long as I feel confident in my footing and have something to hold on to. Since learning about the lifelines, I won't climb a tree without one, period.
