Spoke with a friend of mine today and he told me on his property in Perry county the farmer saw a rattle snake. Don't know what kind but supposedly another was found just down the road. What kind of rattlers are in this area. I heard of timber rattlers, any other kind been found in southern Indiana? I own a farm 5 miles from him but never seen anything but black snakes.

It's probably a timber rattler... I had one scare me to death last month when I was out putting up a trail camera. It let me get within 10' before it started rattling to warn me it was there.

We saw a timber rattler in brown county state park many years ago. They are becoming a common site there now. Especially near the campgrounds.

That map is not accurate. Timber rattlers are in Switzerland County. At least a few of them.

Rattlesnakes and Copperheads both are within one mile on the South side of Martinsville, and Copperheads are west of town past White River.

Yes the rattlesnakes are becoming very common in Brown county. They have been seen on the trails and in camp. There's a lot of unhappy people and horsemen about this. Myself included.

That map is not accurate. Timber rattlers are in Switzerland County. At least a few of them. They are in Martin County as well, at least in limited numbers.

I've got a new neighbor in the area here. Big time hunter, bird preserves, been every where, killed every thing, all BIGGER than any thing you've ever seen. After owning the place for a year they finally saw "one of those things ya say aren't around here". They managed to kill a copper headed water snake with those 44 shot shells they been carrying around for a year. Now they all ordered snake boots and chaps. I never saw a copper head even dip his little toe in a drop of dew before but the one they killed was a skilled frog hunter swimming around cleaning out their little pond. I saw the mashed up mess they had left hanging on a stick, I guess I can't say it's NOT a copperhead from that mess but... infinitespider.com/copper-head-snakes-water-snakes/I guess I'll have to take a mental lash or two on my disbelief of the copperheads taking to a water habitat, but I"VE never seen proof of it. Not to claim I'm a snake EXPERT, I'll defer to the web link on that.

Me personally don't care what kind of snake it is, I am going to give it another hole to breathe with.

This may sound strange but I dream about catching snakes a lot. Usually its really big snakes with cool patterns. I'm always looking for snake skins to put on longbows. I guess that carries over to when I'm asleep. I would love to spend a week in Texas or the Everglades catching snakes. I'm probably the only person who would be happy with a thriving population of snakes on my property. When I find small snakes at work or anywhere else I bring them home and let them go in the back yard.

I love snakes. Always have. Used to catch and keep them in my house growing up.
Personally have seen timber rattlers and copperheads and survived...amazing! You guys crack me up. Even converted my wife from a snake killer to a leave it alone and let it go

It's on my to-do list, fairly towards the bottom though.
