So in regards to all this, these are my first draw hunts I've ever put in for. I know how the process at Big Oaks works. But in terms of the state park hunts, are there zones you reserve if drawn? Or is it more of a free for all?

Dove hunts might all be zoned, I don't know. If you have a draw number, it's zoned.

Or is it more of a free for all? Versailles for instance has 3 zones: blue, orange, and red. You'll be assigned a zone, but once in your zone it's a free for all. In 2015 I was set up by 530 am and proceeded to have 4 different guys walk in or set up by me by 7am.

I have hunted Versailles SP several times and hunters can be pretty rude. I had three different guys sit up within 50 yards of me. I ended up moving to a spot farther in. You need to walk and get away from the road to stay away from the other hunters. Versailles is definitely what I would call a free for all!!!! Big Oaks is great because only a few hunters per area. We have never had an issue at Big Oaks with hunters being rude.

The thing about Park hunts is you have to realize they can't be hunted like Grandpa Joe's farm. You have to have the ability to read an area to determine where other hunters will be, how they will access it, where the deer will escape that threat, and then put yourself in a spot to capitalize.

BINGO! Any sign you find (rubs and scrapes) will usually have several people set up on it.

I have been analyzing the topos and satellite maps, and honestly that didn't occur to me. Great advice thank you!

what's the deadline to put in for draw hunts Depends on the hunt, in.gov/dnr lists deadlines under the reserved hunt section.

Finally had time to apply for the draw hunts. Either I'm going to be disappointed,or travel a bunch. I applied for several more hunts than normal because the dates shown were days I already have scheduled off work. If I get drawn for everything I'm not going to have many days on the home property during gun season.
Maybe I'll get lucky and wrap up hunting that farm during archery season. :-)

This is something I know very little about. My understanding is for deer hunting on state campgrounds is that right? Don't quite understand your question. There are several draw hunts including dove, pheasant, small game, and deer. Deer hunts include military ground, wildlife refuge ground, and some state park ground.

Is the deer hunting pretty good on draw hunts? Better than regular public land hunting?

Not really. There are plenty of deer killed but takes strategy and scouting or plain luck to do well at these hunts.
They are opportunities for hunters to help state parks and federal property manage deer. Not really a trophy hunt. Some properties like big oaks can be used as trophy hunts if you are willing to go to the no show draws and log your time in. Most other places are very limited in how many hunting days are allowed.

They can be. It really depends on the property and how one hunts it.

Deer firearm: Tern Bar Slough, Fairbanks Landing, Deer Creek. Deer muzzle loader: Deer Creek Really like Deer Creek property. No more reduction hunts for me. Too many hunters on too small of an area in my experience. Sort of a rodeo environment. Not being negative as I appreciate DNR's program
Edit to add: Forgot that I also applied for Big Oaks deer firearm. A great property with fantastic staff. A first class experience. I will apply there every year

I've never been to either so this could be a fun learning experience.

Fairbanks landing isn't nothing like it used to be, but there are still a fair amount of deer in there and some good bucks. Used to be we would drive by the day before gun opener just to see the line of people waiting to get in and just chat with them. There were a few years where it was 3 days before and people would be lined up.
