Well I'm sure you've all heard about Trump wanting to essentially ban transgender people from the military. What're your thoughts on it? The military currently makes you select on gender or the other, and those who chose the opposite gender, the government pays for their "transitioning" process. While I believe that aspect should be cut, I'm not so sure it should be all encompassing. I've talked to people about it today that have served and are currently serving and I've heard that many of the soldiers don't care... at the end of the day they're all there for the same reason and fighting for our freedom. So what say you?

I'm not to judge other people per the good Book. But I don't have to agree with their actions. And I'm not comfortable paying for the gender reassignment.

I think it's an arbitrary rule.

I'm not comfortable paying for the lady in town that drives a brand new Lincoln Navigator and has 9 kids with an illegal immigrant but.... we do it anyway I'd rather pay for gender reassignment for someone willing to risk their life for our country than pay for someone to have a house because they choose not to get married and still have 9 kids all while riding on the coat tails of society

In general I'm not in favor of discriminating against anyone but if it would affect the platoon's/squad's morale etc. then this is an example where I would have no problem with it. I'll let those in the service comment from there.

The way I see it is the Transgenders want you and I to be accepting of who they are, but they were not accepting of who they were. Kinda like a double standard, personally I dont believe in paying for their surgeries, but if they can do the job and don't demand more than the next person, who cares?

Im not a huge fan of military covering cosmetic surgeries, aside from plastic surgery to repair damage from battle, accident, whatever injury while performing military duties.
Since this is a hot button issue ill say that Im ok with it IF you sign up for 8 years ACTIVE duty, not just a weekend warrior, AND you continue to meet minimum qualifications for PAT etc.

I have no issue saying what I feel like a lot of people are afraid to say in this "politically correct" world. I am against it, I do not believe in it. I do not see how this makes a stronger military. I could go on and on but for now I am just stating my opinion.
Also,
medic22, Please explain you reasoning for 8 year active enlistees deserving such treatment but not 4 year active soldiers or as you state "weekend warriors"?

There's no such thing as "transgender".
Only mental illness.
There is enough risk in being in the military and volunteering to defend the country, kill people and break all their stuff AND DO IT ALL ON COMMAND. I think that's about enough to ask of our people who volunteer to do that job, they don't need to do all that PLUS pacify the feelings of a bunch nut jobs on our own side at the same time.

I understand what you mean now. I still do not agree with the whole transgender issues, but if we look at it from that stand point, I think all the other military personal should receive a 50k check for their services if we are going to allow the military to pay for these type of surgeries. Fair is Fair right? Isn't that what they are screaming about?

How in the world did this country get to this? I have a hard time thinking this is what our forefathers had pictured. College education or sex change??? I personally will pick the educated soldier every time.

I thought I saw an estimate of $700k per change, when it's all said and done.

Even if it is 50k what happens if they don't like the new equipment? Does the military have to pay to change them back? Where does it end?
