I never knew there was this much interest in a bait caster reel. I can't get mine set correctly. Perhaps I need a lighter lure or just a better reel. I just got it and trying to learn how to use it. I can cast ok with it.

What about a 2-speed reel where you have to level the line on the spool with your left hand/thumb as you reel it in? Casting a 2# mackerel with 100# test line on a 5' long rod is interesting to say the least......... LOL

I suppose there are people who can't use their own fishing reels. Can't can't can't. Try the Snoopy pole set up.

Some reels are poorly made or if used already trashed out. If you have never used a bait caster it can frustrate the tar out of you.
Maybe try another brand. It does not have to be expensive. I am like throbak most of mine are ambassador reels by abu. There are some junk ones that i'd stay away from, sold in clamshell packages at walmart or other sportinggood shops for 50 bucks or so. They will work but fall apart in a few years. The good ones will last a lifetime.

Gee whiz I never thought of reading the directions, silly me. I don't have a snoopy but my boy has a spider Man. Are those as good as the snoopy? How about instead of criticizing when people ask for help you go back to shooing the neighborhood kids off your lawn.

You just can't do what thousands if not millions of other people have done for at least a hundred years. Yer just not up to it I guess. If you have trouble with that spider man pole you can always just tie a few feet on the end there, that's what the eyelet at the end is for.

I have caught many o fish on a stick and string. Used bubblegum wrappers and ciggarette butts for bait too. Where there is a will there is a way!

I put less weight on the line and everything seems fine. I'm gonna try to fish before work tomorrow morning so we'll see how it goes.

I put less weight on the line and everything seems fine. I'm gonna try to fish before work tomorrow morning so we'll see how it goes. When you're getting used to a baitcaster it helps to leave a little extra line out and kind of "swing" or "lob" the lure out. For lack of better words to explain it. Let the weight of the lure get it out there and not the power coming off the cast. As you get used to it you can shorten the swing and make it more of a cast. If any of that makes any sense.

A lot of the motion for casting is from the wrists and not the whole arm. Like with fly fishing, you only have the rod move between 10 and 2, and 90% of that comes from wrist motion.
