Any certain type of line recommended for a bait caster? I would like to use it for both top water lures and jig fishing.

Monofilament 1 Less backlash 2 Easier to undo backlash 3 Cheap 4. Nothing cast quite like it out of baitcaster

I've used Spider wire a lot on mine. Mostly fishing for Northern Pike.
I like that stuff, it will last for years and not get weak or brittle.

Mono for topwater. Fluorocarbon for soft plastics and jigs. Braid for spinnerbaits and crankbaits.

If I want something different from spider wire on mine and just cut out 6 or 10 feet of mono and tie it on the end of the spider wire.

Maybe that is what the problem with mine is. I use spider wire and no matter what I do it still doesn't cast out all that far. I will definitely look into switching mine out. Thanks for the info.

I've never been a fan of Spiderwire. I do run PowerPro on a rod that I throw a Carolina rig on and like it.

Do you have the anti backlash setting adjusted properly? Hold the rod horizontal, let the lure dangle from the rod tip. Have the reel in freespool. If you take your thumb off the spool, the lure should pull line off of the reel under it's own weight. You can loosen it up looser than that, but you will have to educate your thumb so you don't get backlashes.

That's good advice I would add to adjust each time you change lures also if they weigh differently

I can't get mine set. Even with both knobs set all the way tight I have play in the spool and I get backlash if I don't keep my thumb on the line. All I have on it right now is a hook less spoon for practice so maybe the spoon is just too heavy

I never knew there was this much interest in a bait caster reel.
