It sure sounds like a freak thing to me. Is he allergic to any of those meds? No idea. Don't know if that or it was just a mixture that caused him to pass out or contributing factor. He was supposed to play x-box online with my boy but was saying he was real tired after working a double shift. My guess is just everything combined shut his body down and caused him to pass out.

So they did another MRI today and there, as far as they can see, is no damage to spine or spinal column. What they did see is an infection in the spinal column. What they believe now is they think the fall did temporarily jar the spine enough to temporarily paralyze him but the fall caused whatever infection is there to explode throughout his body. All the surgeons have stated they have never seen a case like this. They are throwing around meningitis, spinal tb, or M.S. None have a clue though. Sending him for another MRI hoping to get a better view of the infection to see exactly what it is.

Even a strange place to have an infection to me. It being in a strange place may make it something that could be hard to combat. He could get sepsis from all the infection and immediately affect his lungs, well, organs in general. He sure needs our prayers. Thanks for keeping us updated.

What they are thinking is that whatever is causing the issues was there and just wasn't caught before. He had dealt with severe migraines for the last two years or so. The doctor basically told him that this brought it to the forefront. He thinks the outcome would have been the same either now or later. Unfortunately until they can figure it out it's a guessing game.

There are some bacteria that grow much more slowly even at human temps. However, the ones I know about would sure be crazy to get it where he has it. Shane, there could be a huge blessing in this. His migraines may go away to as he recovers. This is what I will pray for.

What a story. Keeping you guys in my thoughts. The good news is no long term paralysis. Lets hope they figure it out and cure him.

So I know some had wanted to keep them updated so here is what we know.
First the diagnosis finally came to he had a spinal stroke. Doctors are very convinced that the combination of medication he took caused it. The prognosis is not good. He is basically paralized from the chest down but does have limited movement in his arms and hands and wrists. Doubt any significant improvement over his lifetime. He is on a colostomy bag and more than likely will be for life. His lungs are back to normal so no trach or breathing machine. He is very upbeat and hopeful but I just don't think the levity of the situation sank in yet and the faith is still there. That will change I'm sure. Unfortunately this is the bed he made and he will have to lie in it for life. As cold as that seems, if he would realize that this is all from his bad decisions, maybe there will be a lesson for him to learn here. I don't hear any blame game with him but I dont think he's taken ownership of it yet.

Wow, I've never heard of such a thing. This certainly doesn't sound good at all.
Thanks for the update. Him staying positive will be good for his all around health.
