First time hunting with a deke. Gander Mountain here is closing and I had a couple of gift cards, so I picked up the 1/4 jake decoy and added a jake fan I bought. I was hunting on the north end of a 4 acre meadow that is about 100 yard wide. Woods on the west and north and a ditch running along the east side. About 200 away from me a tom crosses from the ditch to the woods then runs back to the ditch. Three toms came out of the woods. They started heading away from me when they noticed the deke. They slowly moved this way. One in front walking right to it, the one behind him strutting to it, and a more timid one behind them. The one on the ditch was coming along too. I made up my mind the first one in range gets shot. The front runner stops a few yards from the deke leaving me a 25 yard shot. I pull the hammer back and click. Friggen misfire. So I am thinking how am I going to get this gun cracked and throw in another shell. I pull the hammer back to try again. Boom. Turkey is a flopping. I throw in another shell in case he wants to get up (had that happen before) and the second turkey is fighting the flopping turkey. (first time I have ever had more than one tom come in to me before other than my first year hunting and that was pushing roosting time.) I so could've doubled up if we were a two bird state. Put the gun down, got my phone out and shot a little video. They never left until I stood up and gobbled. www.facebook.com/jeff.armstrong.710/videos/10209285182436655/If using your phone to view, tilt phone at a 45 to get it to flip the video. Not sure why it did it this way or how to correct it. 18 1/2 pounds, 3/4 spurs. 12 inch beard. I believe a two year old.
