Text for the Day -- Ezekiel 37:24-28 ---------- My servant David shall be king over them; and they shall all have one shepherd. They shall follow my ordinances and be careful to observe my statutes. They shall live in the land that I gave to my servant Jacob, in which your ancestors lived; they and their children and their children's children shall live there forever; and my servant David shall be their prince forever. I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them; and I will bless them and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary among them forevermore. My dwelling place shall be with them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Then the nations shall know that I the LORD sanctify Israel, when my sanctuary is among them forevermore.
Devotional ---------- Ezekiel prophecies a new beginning for Israel after the Exile. The split nation will be re-united and made one nation under a king like king David. God renews the promise to be their God will care for them through this shepherd king whom God will raise up. Christians interpret this as a messianic promise of Jesus who becomes God's gift to reconcile and fulfill the covenant.
Prayer --------------- Lead me to reconciliation and peace, gracious God. Amen

When God is speaking through his prophets and mentions one of his servants like David and Jacob, it sounds very special. "My servant David..." I certainly do not feel worth for him to mention me in the like, but it sure would be special for him to call us his servant by name.

He WILL call us by name someday...
