Just curious. What's the longest amount of time you guys have worked a single bird? Had one today, started at 7:30 and finally gave up at 4:30. Bird was less than 60 yards all day. What amazes me is he gobbled all day. There wasn't 10 minutes he wasn't hammering. Double, triple. Had a multiflora bush in front of me, about 40 yards long, and he just wouldn't come around it. Deep in the woods but he just wouldn't finish. Called every which way and gave him the silent treatment. Still nothing. No hens with him all day. Farthest he'd go would be maybe 100 yards but as soon as I'd call he'd be right back. Never seen or heard of it happening in my 30 years of turkey hunting.

Woodmaster has been trying to get one to come in all day today. As far as I know he is still out but his phone ran out of charge.. Had him at 60 yards behind stuff once... We think it is the same one that was with my bird this morning..
Aggravating isn't it?

I worked one odd the roost in Kentucky, move 180° on him twice and missed him at 2:30 in the afternoon while I was sitting against the same tree I started against.
Killed him 3 days later.

Debated even shooting him if he came in. You have to respect an animal that plays the chess game that well and wins. Made the day go by.

I've spent a half day following turkeys in big circles in the HNF. I call, they walk away gobbling, I follow, repeat. I've done probably 3-4 miles like that.
I've got a better spot to hit this weekend where the birds may not be as tough to call, weather permitting.

5 hours, giant bird that finally came in from a long way away after he got done with his hens. Then he spooked to my strutter decoy, got to love turkey hunting.

To qualify for "long working" I suppose I'd have to be aware that he was there in the first place, either by seeing or hearing him. So I'd guess none longer than 45 minutes or so.
How about shortest working? I once sat down about 75 yards from a roosted gobbler that I was trying to get close to. I saw him after I'd gotten too close and I was sure he'd seen me. But I sat down anyway next to the closest thing I could find, which was a good sized stump and made three soft yelps. He pitched off the roost and sailed to within 15 yards of me. When he hit the ground he stopped and raised his head to get a look. Boom. It all happened in about 30 seconds.
