It's pouring here. Started out in the woods now I'm in blind over field. Not very hopeful. Not many birds around this year.

Had two gobbling from different directions. Calling back and forth with them for the past hour. One would get really close then farther off again. Been silence for ten minutes now, so I quit calling. Hoping one works his way in nice and quiet like.

Live from the house where there is thunder and lightning; no way I'm out.

Still on roost, and big storm minutes away. Last one just ended. It was pouring. I can hear the thunder. Grabbing decoy and out of here. Just too much this morning!
Glad I got out of there. Darker now than an hour ago. Received over 2" over night.

Went back to work last night so I could get out today. Right after I clocked in we all had to huddle for the tornado warning.
Planned to hit the woods between storms, it worked a few years ago deer hunting, but was woke up early by thunder. Checked the radar and holy cow there isn't going to be any "between" the storms.
I guess I have time to finish the bathroom today. May try to get out tomorrow before picking up the girl child from college.

I'm up north at jasper Pulaski for a draw hunt. Lucky enough to be in the clear out of the rain. I keep hearing gobblers every so often and I'll call with no response. I just can't get them to come closer. Don't know if I need to be more aggressive or not.

I've had 2 lone hens meander through. Heard one distant shot. Just when I think the rain is over, another band of showers moves in.

So today was my first morning out. Wasn't super motivated as I was not getting really any pictures. Had one picture a week ago of two jakes. Listened last Saturday morning heard one in the back near property line of this little 16 acre patch I can hunt. I started in the woods in that back part. It was raining the whole time and as I expected no gobbling. After just a little while I decide to go back to the car and get my blind and spend the rest of the morning on the hay field hoping something would come out. At 9:55 I was dozing off and had my head down. I hear a gobble close that really surprised me. I had been hitting the box call some but it had been a while. I started to grab a call and raise my gun but he was already coming. He walked into the field and was heading right for the decoys. He stopped and I put the red dot from my Son's 20 gauge youth model I was using and put him down with hevi 13 #7s. The whole thing lasted about 15 seconds. 23 lbs. 10 inch bird. Spurs look to be just over an inch. 23 lb. 10 inch beard. Spurs just over an inch.

Today was my first turkey hunt, ever. Almost didnt go when i seen the radar but for the most part it skirted us up here in the north central part until now. I had turkeys gobbling as soon as i got out of the truck. I walked to my blind and set my decoys up and did some yelps and had more gobbling. Finally it was getting closer and he stepped out across the feild about 120 yards or so on the neighbors property. Thought for sure he would come right to my setup but he did not. He just walked around and went back where he came from. At the same here came 5 deer in between me and the turkey. Later i had 2 hens walk by about 15 yards out. Then a little later 3 more toms in the same area as the first, just walking around and feeding and showing no interest in any call or decoys. I finally gave in when the rain came but there was still 2 toms in the neighbors field. Overall a good day for my first ever turkey hunt, but also frustrating that i could not get any of those toms in range.

The first time you see a tom running to your decoy, you'll be hooked for the rest of your life.

I'm all set up and feel really good about this spot.
It's nice weather right now, but more storms are supposed to roll in after while. I put up a cheap blind, but the springs must have been bent wrong last time I put it up; It was too floppy to stand. I have it tied up with paracord to an overhanging tree, but things may get western in here if it storms very hard.

Heading out to get my buddy a bird. This will hopefully be four for the year and have one more to go. Betting with the rain letting up they'll be fired up. Some reason about 1:00 yesterday the woods opened up. Worked one in and as he was gobbling I had 4 other birds around me gobbling. As he was working his way in he got to 40 yards, just out of range I'll shoot. Started to move a bit forward all of a sudden dropped his strut and took off running. 2 minutes after he left see a fan coming from different direction. He strutted in to same spot. Strutted for about five minutes and perked up, dropped strut and ran to the right of me but still coming. Looked where he was and had two more standing in same spot in full strut. The second bird started coming up a separate ridge to me and for some reason turned around and walked over to the two that chased him off. The original bird had dropped back into his strut zone in the bottom gobbling his head off. All three of those went down to hang out and a 5th gobbler joined them. The racket they put up when cutting at was ridiculous but for some reason moved away. Tried to get in front but they were on a mission. Could hear a couple in the distance so met my buddy and he said as I was calling 4 more, 2 separate groups were working toward me. Sat for a bit to try to get them but as other birds were gobbling only gave it 5 minutes with no response. Cut to other side of property and couldn't get the bird I heard to answer. Came back to point we just left and gobbler tracks on road. Called and the one I just left and couldn't find opens up again. I sat him there and went back to other side of property. Bird wouldn't answer. Walked down the logging road and heard one way off on neighbors property. Thought I'd mess with him just to waste time as no way he was going to cover that distance. As I'm sitting there wife called so I walked back up to top of ridge. Talked to her a bit and decided to call it a day. Got into the truck and drove about ten yards and thought I'll give him one more call and see if he came any closer. Threw a cutting and about 120 yards a different bird opened up. Walked to truck grabbed my gun. Went back into the woods and realized forgot my hat. Walked back to truck got hat, walked into woods, sat down and yelped. Looked down the ridge and see a fan the size of a Volkswagen. Cut and he gobbled, dropped strut and came 10 more yards. Yelped, strutting, spit drum, gobbled and ten more yards. He came in on a string up the ridge and finally thought I best shoot when he was 8 small steps. Darn near took his neck off. Picked him up and walked 15 yards to truck.

I drove down to camp after the rain stopped here. The creek currently owns camp and is in the process of claiming the roads. I didn't even stop and came home, after a couple changes in direction due to fast moving water over the roads.
