Could see a bird thru the trees out in an open field we cant hunt. Same as Sunday. Moved over so I could watch. Could see a tom walk accross field and into the woods. Sat for a few minutes, then a huge body bird came out and stood statue still for a few min. I tried to coax him over, but he was busy going into full strut. This lasted several minutes. He finally turned and went 180deg. 2nd note to self, do not over call... let them look for you. This from a sesoned hunter with prior good success. Lol

We figured these two were brothers and the brother is back..gobbled once. Then came out to pay final respects. He got to about three feet of the downed bird..
A vulture landed as he thought he was. Getting a meal. I waved him off ..
I think I might have hit record and then accidentally shut it off and then hit record again when I went to get the bird. Big dummy..

Wind has been increasing and gusts are building in Starke county now. Gonna stick it out another half hour or so, then pull the plug. Got to get a nap and lunch in before work. Good luck fella's.

I've been sitting, drinking coffee, eating a doughnut and reading the paper. I want to give Woodmaster all the time I can before I walk out. Just saw a hen picking her way across the field about 125 yards out..

It just got wild.. I had two gobblers come into the field 15 yards from me. I had been calling several times about ten minutes before. They headed straight for the Avian X Jake decoy. I had to wait until they separated and shot one. They other one didn't leave but started flogging my Jake decoy .. I let him do that awhile but then I thought he might puncture it. Plus my bird started flopping again so I thought I'd better go get him.. I finally got out and ran him off . He went back the way he came.... Two year old bird but a nice beard.. I got a video of the second bird posturing after flogging my decoy. I'll download it later.. Your a Hunting machine.... congrats! You made my Day.....

The hen worked her way to me and got within 10 feet of the decoys and then decided she didn't like it so she left..

Filled my second Kentucky tag yesterday afternoon. I was walking to a different spot and this bird gobbled off in the woods to my left. I did a quick set up between two low hanging cedar trees, called on my mouth call and he gobbled and started walking toward me. He ended up walking behind me, and coming out in the field to my right. He's lucky his head is even still attached… When he cleared the tree line he was 4 feet away for me! Nice double beard too.

Well not a very long hunt but s fun one. The bird I heard gobbling first is the one I got. A hen showed up in the field first and came to my hen decoy. As she was fussing with it the Tom flew down. She came to within 5 yards of me and looked right at me. She didn't get super spooky but began to putt. The Tom heard her and stretched his neck up high. At 6:01 cst I figured it's now or never so I pulled the trigger and dropped him at 61 yards. I know that's a long shot but, with the Winchester longbeard xr it's not. I've patterned my gun with the rounds at 60 yards and they pattern great. So I have practiced at that range and knew their, my guns and my own capabilities. Glad I got one but, kind if sad it's over. I'll still take a friend or 2 out now.

After the shot and gathering of my I sat back and finished my thermos of coffee as I waited on my brother in law to come take a pic or 2 for me. Still had birds gobbling as I walked out about 0830

I've got one gobbling about 127 1/2 yards behind me. He would be about 118 3/4 yards from Woodmaster. Woodmaster has a clucking hen on the field so he is letting her do the calling...

Congrats to all the successful hunters! I joined that club this AM as well. Nothing much happened from the blind this AM except a couple distant gobbles at the south end of the woods. This was a before work hunt, so at 7:30 I circled around to the south end of the woods and got to a spot where I know they hang out with hens after fly-down. Was still getting situated when I heard a gobble. I got set and called a bit. A minute or so later he gobbled again. I called again, put the call down and got the gun up. In a few minutes I could see him walking toward me, picking his way through the vegetation. At about 45 yards I saw his beard, so I knew I'd shoot if I got a good opportunity. He started toward me again and got behind several large trees about 30 yds away. He'd have to come out one side or the other. About a minute later out popped his head on the left side of the trees. He took another step and was in the clear. The old Mossberg did the job again!

The "brother" still hits a gobble every now and then. Woodmaster threw a cutt at him and it sounds like he moved closer but the wind has really picked up...
