This was the only day I was able to hunt due to shooting, but it was awesome to get my first bird nonetheless. There's an even bigger Tom I was after but we had run over to cut them off, the other Tom split so I dropped the hammer on this guy right before he bolted as well. Was 23#, had a 10 inch beard and spur lengths of 1 1/16 and 1 1/8. It had a huge gash in its chest from another spur of a Tom it was fighting with and had some of its fan cut away from fighting also. It's not the biggest bird but it definitely has a cool history and character!

I think you plucked the feathers to show off your guns

Late in getting this posted I know. The second day of youth season this year was the most incredible hunt I have ever been on. Both my boys doubled on nice longbeards. We had 2 pitch out after first light around 400 yards from us. Then after watching and working these birds for around 20 minutes another longbeard came out into the field approx. 600 yards away. The first two got to with 250 yards of us but the lone gobbler slowly worked his way toward us and eventually joined up with the other two and they did not play well together. Their was some turkey drama and I continued to soft call to them. The one angry bird then broke from the other two and slowly made his way toward us closing the distance to 125 yards. When the other two toms realized he was moving in on the hen and jake decoys they all three came in. I told the boys they would have to communicate and call their own shot on this one. As all three birds circled the jake decoy I could here them whispering to each other and then their was a simultaneous BOOM from both guns! The two birds closest to the jake decoy were flopping and I was shaking like a leaf. The excitement on their faces and mine was indescribable! Truly a awesome hunt with fantastic ending. Declan's bird: 11" beard, 1" spurs and 19lbs. 8ozs. Total Score is 61.5 Cody's bird: 9" beard (short w/ beard rot), left spur 1" right spur 1 1/8", 18lbs. 9ozs. Total Score is 57.8125
