Yesterday my sister took Our dog to work ( the animal hospital ) to update her shots , well the Dr. decided to do a total exam including X rays , which came back real bad for the dog . The dog is only 2 years old and the left hip is almost completely out of socket and the right side is not that bad but bad . 3 Vet DR's looked at the X rays and one asked on how old was this dog , my sister said that was her dog's X rays and the vet said that this dog has the hips of a 10 year old dog . We will find out more on Monday about doing surgery on the dog .

I really feel badly for you. I have a 9 year old female German Shepherd and so far so good. Hips can be a real problem for large dogs. We have been fortunate

Sorry to hear it I pray that the best outcome is achieved. Dogs are adept at wiggling into places of the heart.... dusty back rooms and hidden compartments you never knew existed, there to clamp their jaws on our soul and never let go.

Enjoy the time you have left with her. My dog passed away last week. I'd give anything to pat her on the head one more time.

Update , the left hip bone keeps popping out of socket , the right hip isn't as bad , but the dog will need hip surgery $ 4500 a side , all 3 DRs can't understand on how she jumps , plays catch and not be in pain . The dog is going down to Purdue for further inspection , in the mean while the dog is on 2 or 3 different meds , and the DRs suggest swimming and sleeping .

Vet costs have absolutely skyrocketed over the last several years. Nowadays two dogs with two shots each is almost $200. Ridiculous by my way of thinking. I'd check into a medicine regimen. My 9 year old shepherd takes ibuprofren for dogs when she gets sore. Works great. Of course that won't help the hip popping out. Maybe I am reaching for straws? I suggest doing a Google search for hip dysplasia and see what alternative treatments are available. I just did a search and there is a ton of information. Really, really sorry for you and your dog

I love my dog, but not as much as my daughter. I'd pay $4500 a hip for the girl, but my dog??? No Jeff; this fella would give his big buddy a steak dinner and a dirt bath. I love him as much as I possibly can, but in my world it's not $9K worth. This is just me, and I certainly can see how some would pay much more.
So sorry to hear this bad news.
