So my 870 shell latch needs fixing and I don't feel like pushing my luck with an issue so close to the chamber. So, I was wondering what everyone's opinion was on using a double barrel? I have a Citori with 28" barrels. Got a turkey choke out of the bargain cave and was going to run a full or modified in the other with #5 shot. Anything that is not practical about this setup? Anything to keep in mind? Thoughts generally?

I see the SxS or O/U very practical for turkey hunting. One barrel for 30 yards and in the other for 30+.

It think SxS and O/U are great for any hunting. My rabbit gun is a 28 gauge O/U. My clays gun is a 12 O/U. I'd hunt anything with it and have hunted rabbits with it. Good thinking on the choke set up. That is the way I run my 28 gauge chokes. First barrel is modified choke second is full. Figure if I miss the first shot the rabbit is a bit farther for the second.

Sounds like a perfect setup to me. Pattern it first of course.

I'm going to use my double barrel as Sarah will be using my turkey gun.

Anything to keep in mind? Thoughts generally? Give the federal with the flight control wads a run through it. They are designed that the wad acts as the choke. Not intended to be shot out of turkey chokes. You might be surprised. Most guys I know that shoot them run a modified. It isn't a 50 yard shell but for 30 and in you'll be good.

Funny thing my clays gun is set up opposite to the rabbit gun. Light full on the first barrel and modified on the second. Go figure. Works for me though and I gotta believe clays are moving faster than rabbits

Sure; when I went to MO I took an O/U as a back up. Put a turkey choke in both barrels and you are GTG.

I told him before he went hunting with you to miss some so you could feel better about yourself With all due respect, and by that I mean zero respect, you all are hunting with cannons. When you miss and blow a hole in the ground, I tend to think you are a bit over gunned for bunnies. Now a .410 on the other end is a gentleman's gun. Shows sophistication, class I might add. I guess point being, I missed one rabbit this year and he was on his third pass and doing Mach three. Sent him on his was so we could get on another. jimstc may be able to tell more detail of the snap shot on the rabbit that I took his head darn near clean off, but that's a braggadocios story I'd rather someone else tell on me.

The Citori is a fine gun and will work just fine for turkey hunting.
