I have to agree with this. At least around here, I mainly see a bigger amount of two and three year old bucks being in the harvest. Hunters are passing the young 1.5 year old bucks more, but not holding out for mature bucks 4.5 years old and older. Still a rarity in most of Indiana imo. Most hunters either can't or won't take on that challenge with our regsCan you explain this last part freedomhunter, I may have missed something but also don't want to assume. I just don't see how our regs dictate someone willing to or not willing to wait and hunt maturer deer? The firearms seasons aren't exactly set up for a proper age structure. I know, there are spots protected from the long firearms seasons during the rut that kill off most of the younger bucks. So, what I meant is you can't hunt what is not there for most hunters, so eventually they give up (because of unproductive time and money spent) and take any buck or the first 2 year old buck they see. Vicious cycle. And please, I don't need to hear how many mature bucks you have in your area, not everyone has that.

Trust me, I'd say I'm a fairly common representation as far as mature bucks go on my properties, with maybe one exception due to a large swamp causing a higher chance of survival for em. I guess to me the weapon choice doesn't matter or the timing, one either desires to put in the harder task of hunting the maturer bucks/deer in general or they don't. Thanks for clarity though, while I don't personally agree fully I see the merit in the thought.
