Disagree with one statement in the article about if the deer meets the club standards it is a "trophy". A "trophy" is in the eyes of the beholder.. that can be ANY deer..

Thanks to obr and the ability to reach out further the record books should fill faster than they ever did. Well that's my opinion anyway.

Not to mention everyone wanting to see their name in print Article says most people with record deer don't even want or seek the glory. I think if you kill a record deer you should be able to have your name in a book if you so wish.

I do love seeing those big deer all from Indiana on the wall.
But I have no desire to see my name in a book for killing a big deer. I get it and glad there is a record book.

I know one gentleman that has a buck over 200 and he never had it officially scored and it's place in the books. The buck is a typical 14 with a two drop tines. The next time over the house I will take a picture. I'm sure there are a few more never entered.
PS: At the time he had a very high military clearance and was not allowed any public attention (noise).

I put one in the HRB MANY years ago and haven't since. The county CO was drumming up entries and i honored his request and I took mine out to the Winchester Gun Club in Evansville and had it scored. 154 net typical. I've killed several since then that would make it, but I've declined. IF it is just honor the animal why even put the hunters name in the HRB, B & C or P &Y book at all? I asked that of a scoring official once and they told me, " Why we couldn't sell any books then."

Although I have 5 bucks that could go in the books, I have never entered them. Not knocking anyone that has ! But I have been fortunate to have had pictures I've submitted Published in the book.I even had one to make the cover several years ago,I had Smiling Chuck Adams sign that one for me.

My daughters buck from this season will be close to making the book. If it does we will enter it. Proud of her efforts the last few years and it finally paid off, so why not get her name in the book.

I've had 2 officially scored. My biggest at the time and one I killed back in 2011 just because I wanted to see what he'd go. The book deer went 157" gross and 152" net as a 10 point. My 2015 buck will make it, but I'm not sure I'll have him scored. It's not that big of a deal to me as it is to my dad. He wanted me in the book with him. To me the trophy is in the hunt itself and the memories made. I could tell you every detail of every hunt where I killed my bucks.

I don't think there should be a stigma attached to desiring to be in a record book, but I sense an underlying sentiment to this effect.
My name is in an Indiana record book. Back in 1982 I ran a stop sign and it's still in the books. I haven't been able to top it in the past 35 years.
