So, the little passed her Hunters Ed last year but didn't get drawn for a tag here in CO (have to be 12 to hunt big game here). Since I had some time I looked around quite a bit before deciding on a rifle. I am on another hunting based website regularly and found out through a thread I started about the search that one of their sponsors, Howa, had a distribution rep who offered Vet/Active Duty discounts on all of their products (pm me if you would like details). Howa makes actions for a few other gunmakers and their 1500 series is the Weatherby Vanguard. I contacted the rep and got a GREAT deal on a youth/ladies sized barreled action in 7mm08. I then got a Featherlight thumbhole stock from Boyd's, knowing that it would have to be fit to her. A couple of weeks before Christmas Cabela's had a great sale on a Vortex Crossfire 3x9x50. Bammm, there was the setup. As of Friday they were all here and we took them to the gunsmith to get her fit and let them do their magic. Should be ready in about 2 weeks and we are both REALLY excited.

That's a cool route to go, almost like a semi-custom rifle. I have a Boyd's stocked rifle, I was really surprised by the quality. Those Howas will shoot too.
