Flatter trajectory, the ability to shoot further and the ability to shoot sabotless. Since you are using an aftermarket barrel to convert it, the barrel is a bit better quality than the factory orig. Savage barrel. Not saying that the orig barrel is bad, just that the new barrel is better. With my .45, even shooting sabots, I can hold center mass on a deer and make a "boiler room hit" from muzzle to roughly 250 yards when sighted dead on at 225 yds. I just hold a hair low when the deer is around 100 yds because the bullet hits 4" high.

I'm dwelling on all kinds of ideas. LOL! I've even been contemplating selling the 10ML and buying a CVA .45/70 Apex or Scout to convert.

As luck would have it, anytime I ever look for a particular firearm, they are rare as hens' teeth. LOL! Anyone seen a stainless .45/70 in any of the following platforms?
CVA Scout
CVA Apex
H&R Ultra Hunter

Thats a first for me! Looks decent. Now that I think of it, my buddy has a nickel receiver on a 44mag if that counts. Not appealing to the eye, imo. Has a rough texture to it.

Sorry for coming to the thread late but here's my input on the Savage ML... I've owned one for years and love it! If a game animal comes within sight of me... I consider it within range. My longest shot to date was a coyote 2 years ago at a lasered 260 yards crossing a cut corn field. These are some fantastic guns with outstanding accuracy and knock-down power. All the best, BOBinIN

Well, after scouring online for what seems like forever, I was able to locate a CVA Apex .45/70 rifle in North Carolina and ordered it. When I get some spare funds, I will send it off to have it converted into a smokeless muzzleloader. Since it is set up for interchangeable barrels like the T/C Encore, I may pick up a .308 barrel for it one day. That way, I can use it during both firearms and muzzleloader seasons with a simple barrel swap. I've packed a muzzleloader in firearms season before, and it isn't any fun when you need a quick second shot. LOL! cva.com/CVA-Store-View.php?id=764

If you have a reload tube and ramrod pretty handy it is a fairly quick second shot. Filled two antlerless, boom-boom, the first year I had my Encore 45/70 conversion.
