The last few weeks have been dry. Tough hunting with many sits and no sightings. But, still it has been enjoyable. Call it lockdown, weather, patterns, etc. The reality it has been lean on the hunt front. Yesterday, I made it out for the last few hours of light. I never made it to the stand. I saw a deer about 1/4 mile away and quickly parked. Donned the coveralls and ducked into the creek bottom of the woods to work my way up near the deer. It turns out there was 3 and Mama doe looked to be about 200 yards away. I ducked back down the ravine to the creek and came up a little closer. Soon, I found myself belly to the ground with my Encore rested across a dead log. I tried to range but I had too much junk in the way. I knew it was around 150 yards. She gave me a perfect broadside shot and I let the 240 gr Hornady sabot fly! Though I couldn't see her reaction due to the smoke, I felt good about the shot. She piled up about 30 yards from where I shot her. Double lunged from 158 yards! It was a wild kind of "stalk" and another memory in my bank. I'd still like to have some success with my flintlock but I can't say enough about the special "bond" I have with this Encore. This makes the 20th year in a row that I've dropped a deer with her. TC...thanks for putting out such a good gun as my baby!!!

Way to get it done. That's a pretty good poke too.

Congrats on the long streak! Looks exactly like what my buddy uses all firearms season. His back up muzzy is the same with a blued barrel. We have been using BH 209. What powder for you?

I bet that gun will last another 20 more.... at least

I still use 2 Triple Seven pellets. All I've ever used is the pellets (100 gr) and the Hornady 50 cal sabot with the 44 cal, 240 grain bullet. I've tried other combinations and my gun seems to like this the best so that's what I've stuck with through the years! www.hornady.com/store/50-Cal-Sabot-with-44-Cal-240-gr-HP-XTP-Bullet/

Im with you on the 100 gr with 240 gr sabot, killed a lot of deer with that load. I've had my encore since they first came out back in the mid to late 90s I think. Only gun I use for deer hunting, gotta find the reciept for the year, bought at uncle lees in greenville ky.

Congrats!
I'm trying to start a tradition like this with my new Optima. Although, at 68, I'm not sure that I'll get 20 years of kills with it.
Hoping to get the first before the week is out!

Was this up here in my neck of the woods? No. This was in Parke county. The few days I hunted LaPorte county, I was hard pressed to even see a deer. They just weren't moving. That was the few days after Thanksgiving. But, man did we ever see the turkey. At times, I counted 50+ turkey but with the flocks mingling, I'd lose count and have to start over!

I am glad you found them because they have disappeared from my neighborhood.
