Looks like you have plenty to be proud of you made a hunter out of your son and you put meat on the table life doesn't get a whole lot better does it?

So the deal was I would shoot the first decent buck we saw and he would shoot a doe or small buck if he wanted it. Approximately 0730 he says "deer, deer, deer" and points in front of us. I grabbed the muzzle loader and looked at it through the scope. I said "It's decent do you care if I shoot him?" and he gave me the go ahead so I shot him.
After a few minutes we got down and looked at him. I was kind of disappointed because it had major ground shrinkage. We decided our hunt was over so we started back towards the truck. On the way out I said lets look over this hill and as we did he said "deer, deer, deer!" I looked and saw this giant 8 pointer standing in the creek. I told my son that he needed to try and shoot the deer but i needed to reload the muzzle loader. After quickly loading it I told him we needed to get a little closer and we were able to get about 80 yards away and he smoked him. The buck never made it out of the creek.
This is the first deer he has killed with a gun. All of his other deer was killed with crossbow. Needless to say I'm a very proud dad and a little jealous too lol. It was a bizarre hunt but one i will never forget. Thanks for all the kind words guys.

Nothing wrong with either buck. I don't understand why you would feel that way.
Congrats to you and you son!

Congrats to you and your son. It is easy to get fooled sometimes. I think some areas the bucks get big so fast that it makes it tough.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Got a text from taxidermist today. He said he measured him at 148 inches. Can't ask for a better 8 then that.
