I purchased the Ruger American 308 win 3 weeks ago and found a china scope for $45. I'm shooting 1.5" circle at 100 yards. The clip holds 4. Good gun for the price. I haven't got enough trigger time on mine to get my groups that tight at 100yds yet, but they're very close and I've only been to the 100yd range once so far and only shot about 15 rounds. Same gun though, Ruger American 308 my scope is a Bushnell Trophy XLT 3-9x40. I paid $249 for the rifle and $79 for the scope and I've been shooting German 7.62 NATO M80 spec ball ammo out of it. That stuff is awesome and only $12 a box.

I've got a Savage Trophy 116 in .300 Win Mag with a stainless barrel, accutrigger, and detachable box magazine that came with the Nikon BDC scope. A little more expensive than OP's budget but their Axis line is cheaper in price with similar features. My Savage 116 has the smoothest operating bolt I've ever used on a rifle and the accutrigger is outstanding. I recently purchased a Ruger American Rifle in .30-06 with a blued barrel and detachable box magazine. It didn't come with a scope but it does have an adjustable trigger. I got it for $199 during the secret wally world clearance sale back in August but I've seen them on sale at other retailers for less than $400. Even at full price it is still a very nice rifle. The adjustable trigger is nice (very similar to Savage's accutrigger) and the bolt isn't bad. I put a Weaver Kaspa 3-12x50 scope on it I got from CTD and it made a very nice shooting setup. ETA: Dunham's and Dick's both have some great Black Friday deals on Scoped Axis Rifles. Check them out OP. My brother has a Savage with an Accutrigger and yeah,it's virtually identical to the trigger on my American.

Hey, I also have Ruger 308 and I have been truly enjoying it. But the truth is that I will advise you that any optics lesser that a $100 might be a catastrophe not to talk about mounting something like Chinese optics. except it has a great quality or I bet you to be expecting a great disappointment in the middle of a serious need for your optics. I mounted a UTG 3-12X44 30mm Compact Scope. You should look through the best scope for AR

I would go even farther and say you want your optic to be at least as expensive as your gun. If you can afford more than that so much the better. I like the VX3 class of scope for a hunting rifle. Competition guns you will likely want to step up from there.

^^^^^^ Ditto what he said.
You can't hit what you can't see. Lesser scopes don't have the repaatability that better scopes have, cheaper scopes can change zero when adjusting the adjustable objective, cheap scopes might not track correctly.
Take that cheap china scope and do the following test. Get a large piece of paper and put it at 100 yds. Shoot 3 shots for a group. Move the elevation down 3 or 4 revolutions. Count the clicks. Now shoot another group of 3. Move the windage right 3 or 4 revollutions. Shoot another 3. Move the elevation up the same number of clicks you moved it down, shoot 3. Move the windage back lrft the same number of clicks you moved it before. The 3 shots should not make the orig 3 group size any larger.....
