How much would you pay to have your arrow supplier add a GPS receiver tracker as an insert in the tip of the arrow just before the screw insert? This way the gps is in the deer. I have created a proto-type, but concerned about sell price etc. Tracking days would be over.
Would $15 per tip be too much?

$15 wouldn't be bad.
I saw one advertised on facebook the other day. Not sure of the price, but it required you to cut your arrows 3" shorter.

Looking at what folks pay for bows, broadheads, and arrows, it probably isn't too much. A far greater concern would be weight.
Such a thing would answer many questions, leading to an arrow that fell out, or if it was still moving around twelve hours later you'd know it was a non-fatal hit!

Can it be used more than once? Is there a service charge when it is activated? I work daily with human GPS tracking devices. So this topic is very interesting to me.

No service charge on this unit and I'm working on the off/on timer. I'm also working on the gram weight added. Yes, it can be used more than once and removable after taking out the screw insert. I am also working on battery life. Might have two options like with weight verses hours on. As I complete the design and 2nd proto-type I will give the preliminary perimeters. Before I went on I wanted to make sure the cost was acceptable. I'm going to move full steam ahead. Well not that quick, it's deer season.

When I finish the best design/making and testing we can get together and discuss. If this goes big I will buy huge farms (multiple) in Indiana for all forum public hunters members so they have a private farm spot. I guess seniority and anyone helping gets 1st bibs. It's always nice to dream. |

What about pass through's and the unit and arrow is sticking in the ground where you shot through the deer. What if it's not a killing shot. Will you be able to follow the wounded, but still alive deer until the battery dies? Interesting idea you have come up with

I wouldn't.
If you can't put an arrow thru the vitals dropping a deer within a hundred yards, you don't need to be bow hunting. My .02

I don't have any reasons why states would not allow a more positive way to find your deer and or confirm the deer is still alive and on foot. |

Bummer, looks like a good product. I looked at RFID, but GPS has longer range. It looks like this site you have to buy the arrows with the RFID, but mine was going to be an add part in the shaft of the arrow. Maybe, I still have a possibility. Thanks for finding the site. Waynes |

Not sure why this would be a game/rule changer. Sometimes it's just an education issue of the technology and detailing the negative and positive issues. IR has some major negative circuity issues. RFID/GPS is a little different in the circuitry and reduces some of the negatives of the design. |

I can absolutely see both sides of the argument for this. From a purely tracking after the shot I love the idea.
For $15 I absolutely think it could be worth it. For example I shot and lost an arrow this year and the arrow is around $9 each, broadhead was a cheapy at probably $6 and had a lighted nock at about $10 so I lost a $25 arrow. If it was a $40 for a 3 pack broadhead that could have been a $33 arrow easy. It's kind of an expensive insurance plan if nothing else.
