I really enjoy rabbit hunting after I've filled the freezer with deer. That said, I'm tired of ripping my bibs on briars. Been wanting to get some Filson chaps. Just looking to start a central thread that I can look back on and purchase as I go.
Ideas, gear, must have, don't need...and go!

Let the dogs deal with the briars I don't have dogs. Gotta let the ones I have, die off first.

I have some non-insulated coveralls that work great. I think I bought these from Duluth, maybe the firehose pants.
Carhartt works great too.
I remember going rabbit hunting when I was a kid with a friend of my moms. I picked briers out of my legs when I got home. I guess this was my first hunting experience.

Best idea is to talk your buddy into getting one you buy the dog and work it and he just takes care of it whenever it's at his house. Then you guys can rabbit hunt and still get torn up by briars but at least you can listen to that dog work the rabbit. A good running beagle isn't to much money and doesn't take a lot to maintain on a day to day basis.

I would much rather have the bibs, than the chaps that don't protect my junk.

That's me, and I'm looking into a dog. Hello poc, It's always nice to see guys post who don't very often. Welcome! What kind of dog do you want? Been thinking about a beagle for a year or so. But now thinking of something to track wounded deer. But I'm finding a beagle can be used for that too, so maybe still a beagle.

Just about any dog will be able to track a deer, some much better than others. I have a big mean American Bull Dog, and he has a good nose on him. Ill take him to track if I get the chance. When the Good Lord provides, I'll move to some land, but won't take Rascal. He's antisocial and doesn't like change. I'll probably look into dogs then, but really clueless what to get. I don't like dogs that run away. One good thing about Rascal is that he stays close to me. My wife had a Lab and he would run away every chance he got. He was old and fat, (well, I am too.) but was faster than me. His name was runner. LOL I did not like that dog.
