It's not rocket science or voodoo. It's just steal and nylon. It will hold you or it won't. You know how to use it and put it on right or you don't.
New or old, it requires some common sense. You can't buy that new or used.

Be careful using 5 year old straps that have been outside in the weather and sun the entire time. I put a new strap on each stand every year.. I use two ratchet straps per stand and swap them out after season with just cam buckle straps like what comes on the old strap tree steps or ladder sticks. That way my ratchet straps are only up a few months at a time. That is for ladder stands. Hang ons get put up and taken down every year. Used to put up and take down ladder stands every year, but that got old quick!

I use the Ladder Stand 2nd Man Treestand Positioning Lifting System. It works pretty good. It has stakes that you put on each leg that secures the base in the ground, then it has a crank that gets ratcheted to the tree and a strap that you attach to the top to the ladder. Once you have everything secured, you simply crank it up, while keeping it straight until you are tight with the tree. You then leave it tight until you have the stand secured with your straps. I use it to put a stand up and to take one down. I also leave them up from year to year and always replace at least one top strap each year.

Really didn't like the looks of this one. Could see it a mile away. It's got dark and light strips across every bar now. Way better.
