I didn't always understand why my one buddy who runs a bow pro shop would say, "Hang out with hunters long enough and you begin to see some validity in the anti-hunter crowd."
I used to get worked up when he'd say that but as I've continued to witness and hear or talk with guys (and gals) I run into at sporting good stores, bow shops, shooting ranges and such it all begins to ring true.
So so so many of our hunting brethren have very little respect for the game they are chasing with stories like yours....which sadly isn't even half as bad as some of the stuff I've heard and no doubt everyone else has.

Going to the range several times prior to the season opening is essential. Speaking specifically about firearms, I've done a lot of experimentation on my own with different brands of ammo and different weights of projectiles. I've found that some of my guns only like one brand of ammo, one bullet weight, and aren't accurate at all shooting anything else. I've found that some of my other guns are less picky about what gets loaded into them. Point is - you have to do your own testing. You can't just buy something at wally world the night before opening day and then expect to hit what you're aiming at (having never fired that gun before).

Subzero is absolutely right. Before my Marlin .44 I had an Ithaca Deerslayer. It was an absolute tack driver with just about all good quality ammo. However, shift in POI from one brand to another was unbelievable (and very painful & expensive!). That gun kicked like the hammers of hell and those stupid sabots were $12-16/box.
I have found that the good 'ol Winchester white box cheapies shoot best in my Marlin. I tried a few others, including Hornady, and nothing shot any better. Especially considering the Winchesters are less than .50/round and the others are $1.00+ I can shoot minute-of-deer-kill zone all day long at 100 yards, which is farther than 90% of the shot opportunities where I hunt.

Where I hunt you can't see more than about fifty yards I hunt 30 arce woods an the property is just the woods not the two joining feilds. Have permission to shoot one of them. About 40 yards max maybe 80 in one stand.
